billionaireandthewildman-evernightpublishing-oct2016-smallpreviewAbout the book:
Flynn Gifford is enjoying a simple existence in a rural Derbyshire village when Caroline Rogers crashes into his life, barefoot and panicked.

Their lives could hardly be more different—she owns a successful luxury hotel chain, and he’s a penniless nomad who’s off the grid—yet neither can deny the attraction that burns between them. As Caroline reluctantly starts to open up to him, Flynn finds himself divulging some secrets of his own, secrets he thought he’d take to his grave.

But can a billionaire and a wild man ever make a relationship work, or will their secrets keep them apart?

Thoughts on writing from Victoria Blisse…

Can you Co-Write a novel with a Friend? By Victoria Blisse
I’ve been a published author for 10 years now and until recently I’d never co-written anything. Sure, I’ve batted ideas to and forth with other authors before now, played around with story ideas but they’ve never turned into anything more.

But now, I have written a novel with my partner in Erotica (not crime, well, least not yet) Lucy Felthouse. We’ve been mates for ages, Northern birds with very similar senses of humour and both part of the amazing Brit Babes. We’ve talked about co-writing for ages and then BOOM. We did it.

What was it like? Well, it was fun. No, I’m not just saying that because Lucy will read this, it really was. I got instant reaction to each chapter I wrote and it was a challenge to keep the story going. I’m not sure we expected it to be a novel when we started but Carrie and Flynn just wouldn’t get it on! There’s loads of hot chemistry and snogs but blimey, it was hard work getting them into bed together.

I had an on hand editor to pick me up on stupid things like changing the Doctor’s name from chapter to chapter and someone to help get past those plot holes. 2 heads are better than one for that, definitely.

Would I co-write a novel again? Yeah, I think I would. It’s different but variety is the spice of life.

Would I co-write a novel with Lucy again…

I have to say yes, or she’ll thump me. 😉 Actually, more to the point, would she want to write with me again? If she does, I reckon another Blisse/Felthouse best seller will soon come around.

Now, I’ll leave you with an excerpt that really made both me and Lucy laugh!

Worst end to a romantic picnic?

I want to fuck him. I want to feel him inside me. The words of invitation hover on my lips when I hear a shrill bark. We both stop, lips locked, and listen. All I can hear at first is our panting breaths, but then the yip of a little dog clearly sounds on the air. I snatch my hand from his pants, and Flynn pulls back from me. Just as a wet doggy nose hits an exposed patch of flesh on my back.

I yelp then turn to see the little Jack Russell looking at me with a mischievous glint in its beady eye. Cock-blocked by a bloody dog. Nice. The dog leaves me alone and pounces on the cocktail sausages.

“Skipper, behave!” A shrill voice yells, drawing my gaze up to meet the white-haired woman in chintz blouse, navy skirt and heavy duty sandals walking towards us. “Skipper, get out of it! Skipper, stop!”

The dog doesn’t even flutter an eyelash, just continues eating.

“I’m so sorry.” The lady gasps as she bends down to pull on the recalcitrant dog’s collar. “He’s such a naughty little thing.”

“Oh, don’t worry.” I smile. “He’s only doing what comes naturally.”

Skipper is clipped onto a lead, but his little tail still wags. Nothing’s going to get him down, especially now he’s got a belly full of sausage.

“I’ll leave you two in peace to enjoy your picnic now.” She smiles. “It’s a lovely day for it.”

“Thanks,” Flynn finds his voice and chips in. “Enjoy your walk.”

She waves and drags the little dog behind her.

“He’s still eyeing up our picnic,” Flynn laughs.

Ha! That made me giggle when I read it too!

My Review:
Caroline Rogers is a self-made woman having a rough patch. She owns a luxury hotel chain, but got caught up in all the pressure and had a bit of a meltdown. Now, she’s in northern England recuperating under the watchful eye of her harping mum. She’s seeing a psychiatrist every few days and trying not to strangle her mother for being a mean-spirited, overprotective nag; their relationship has always been problematic.

After a particularly gruesome shouting match, Caroline hopped over the stone wall at the back of the garden and encountered Flynn Gifford, a clearly unkempt homeless man, picking up litter as an odd job. He’s sweet and a little saucy with her, shaking her from her doldrums. Carrie wants to forget all her troubles–personal and professional–so she joins Flynn in the work, despite being barefoot and half-hysterical. They pass the time talking, and both open up; Carrie about her breakdown, and Flynn about his career in the Armed Service, and how he’s AWOL after a mission went bad. The lack of judgment on either side is refreshing for both. As a favor, Carrie invites Flynn to return to her mum’s house later, when she knows her mother will be gone, so he can get a shower and shave.

The attraction that had developed during their talk is only bolstered by increased company. I’d thought this book would be erotica, honestly, but it’s more a straight romance. These two lost souls find each other at just the right moment. They each need support and comfort, and a little bit of protection, too. They pass a few days together, and it looks like Carrie’s about to propose something wild, but before they can get too far Flynn does what he needs to do: account for himself with the service. He can’t very well court a woman like Carrie if he’s off the grid, can he? Plus, he’s got loads of pride and wants to be able to make something of himself, other than a beggar boy-toy. Not that Carrie ever treated him as such. Her heart’s broken when she finds him gone, but that break is necessary for both Carrie and Flynn to put their respective worlds in order.

I really liked this one. It was honest and practical, and still very sexy and emotional. These two get battered a bit in life, no matter their financial circumstances, and they’re guarded. Giving confidence to a stranger was never in the plan, yet it worked so beautifully for those shining moments. Flynn’s a stand-up guy, who won’t let Carrie boss him around, though, and when he makes good on his promise to find her once he’s made his amends I really felt for him. She doesn’t make apologizing  easy, but I understood that too! Her heart was torn up, and she’s finally gotten over him, only to have him return?

Still, the reunion is sweet (after all the shouting and tears!) and the future looks brighter than ever before. It’s tender and touching and real. I really enjoyed it!

* * * *

Today the authors are answering this question… Who is your favourite British celebrity, past or present? What is it that draws you to this person?

Ashe Barker: There are several, but one of my favourites has to be Professor Brian Cox. He can reveal the mysteries of the Universe to me any day of the week. He’s so hot, and with a brain the size of a small planet. I’m always a sucker for an intelligent hero.

M K Elliott: My current favourite would be Idris Elba. I love the rough, no nonsense attitude he has about him, plus he’s ridiculously hot!

Lucy Felthouse: My favourite crushes change quite frequently, or should I say I find new ones to add to the ridiculously long list of sexy men I enjoy looking at! 😉 My muse for the doctor in this story, Blake, was Richard Armitage. I’d been dreaming about him quite a lot, and I realised I’d never based a character on him. I also thought he’d make a sexy doctor… and voila! I’m fond of Richard Armitage because he’s tall, has a glint in his eye which makes him look very naughty, and he’s epic at doing a sexy smoulder. Somehow, he even makes Thorin Oakenshield hot!

K D Grace: My favourite British celebrity has to be Sir David Attenborough. I love his enthusiasm and his passion for nature and the great outdoors. I love that even into his nineties, he is still passionate about this planet and preserving the natural world and, best of all sharing it with others. There’s nothing more attractive to me than a man with a passion.

Lily Harlem: Oh no, I have so many! Springing into my mind are Sean Bean, Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson (born in Ballymena, Northern Ireland), Henry Cavill, Daniel Craig… oh dear, the list goes on…

Ashley Lister: Anthony Stewart Head. I’ve always been a huge Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan, and Anthony Stewart Head played Mr Giles, a quintessential English librarian, a heroic mentor to the lead character: but a mentor with a dark past. He also played a superb Dr Frank N Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Sarah Masters: David Jason. I loved him as Del Boy in Only Fools and Horses. He’s such a cheeky bloke but at the same time, despite coming across as selfish, he has a heart of gold underneath.

Tabitha Rayne: That’s too hard. I can’t answer. Too many – rock Gods like Mick Jagger, crazy geniuses like, Beardy Man – ooo the list would be endless, honestly, give me a glass of champers and we can talk all night about awesome people who inspire and thrill.

My Review:
This is a delicious boxed set of novellas that feature British men getting their kink on.

Hard Riders By Ashe Barker
Liam meets Jackson while swooning over Jackson’s superbike. They ride together, and enjoy a bit of public sex, to boot. Liam’s a young barrister, sure his big gay secret is buried deep in his closet. He’s startled to find Jackson owns the nearby sex shop that Liam frequents, and he’s even more shocked to be pursued by sexy Jackson. Their sexual chemistry is great, but I really liked how Liam opened up–with a bit of prodding by his sharp mum–into something much more. It gets intense fast, especially when Jackson insists Liam stand up for himself and not treat his lover like a dirty secret. Yummy, kinky sexytimes for these two…

All Roped Up By M K Elliott
Alex is an investigative reporter hoping to get an insider’s look at bare knuckle boxing by interviewing the champ, Conner. Conner’s interested in more than an article–like tying up the sexy young reporter. They get it on, in a super hot frenzy, but when the passions cool, it’s still not over. As the men get more invested, Alex is nervous to scratch deeper beneath the grimy surface, but his instincts are sharp, and the story is right, even if Alex gets it out int he worst possible way. Good thing Conner’s a great guy…

Doctor’s Orders By Lucy Felthouse
Aaron and Blake have been partners for ten years now. They have a loving consensual D/s relationship with Blake being the dominating dirty doc. As Aaron’s birthday approaches Blake blows Aaron’s mind with some kinky games including a brand new toy that would torture Aaron just right on their day of exploring. I really liked how in tune with each other Blake and Aaron are. Especially in BDSM pairings, I love when there’s a strong bond.

Toys for Boys By K D Grace
This is a fun “buddy adventure” that starts off with two strangers on a walking tour across England. Will is a tech guy and ‘Doc’ is the navigator and they are supposed to test a whole bunch of gear for articles in their online magazine for men. Everything goes wrong on this trip, with lashing rains, snows and leaky tents. The one thing that works: them. They have some serious sexy fun while on the road, and often record themselves getting off with the mini cam they use to document their trip. I loved how they got the help of one sexy author to film them at a hotel! This was my fave book in the bunch.

Mile High Kink Club By Lily Harlem
Rhodri and Darius are matched by Gay Hook Ups, and it’s an interesting situation, that. Rhodri’s older and a hard-bodied construction worker, but Darius is a young and wealthy stock trader. That sort of rubs Rhodri the wrong way…but the way Darius follows his every order goes a long way to smoothing his rough edges. Their simple dinner date turns into an erotic adventure to the northernmost edge of the British Isles, and a very sexy trip it is…

Open Mike By Ashley Lister
Ken has a bittersweet task in front of him: to read poetry at a wedding. He’s still in shock over the couple, but agrees, despite having a fear of speaking publicly. He enlists the help of Mike, an experienced poet, to coach him through the process. They are a good match, and Ken thinks his luck in love may be turning…but Mike’s inability to produce any new poetry feeds Ken’s new insecurity. It’s a new chapter for both of them, when they’re confessing all their dirty secrets.

I Get You By Sarah Masters
Morton and Warren had no idea the depth of their fascination with the other until Warren makes a glib comment one day regarding Morton’s workaholic ways. Sparked into action, Morton takes Warren on a week-long trip for work, but the time is also spent in play. I liked how they were so naive with each other, and how they stumbled into something really interesting and fulfilling, almost by accident. It was sweet and sexy and lovely. Wished I could have joined them on the beach! My second fave of the bunch.

The Guitar By Tabitha Rayne
Kel is a guitarist in a punk band, and he’s pretty sure he’s ugly. The other band mates get lots of attention, but Kel’s generally overlooked. At a gig Kel notices one beautiful man staring at him from the crowd. He plays to that man, and fantasizes there is a connection, but he’s too embarrassed and occupied with his band business to pursue anything. When Damien, the beautiful guy, shows up at more gigs they get to talking…and then some. This is a quirky one, with some steam and some shame. Poor Kel’s really got his head screwed up, but Damien’s a persistent one, and he helps Kel to see the best side of himself.

EWOAbout the book:
An ordinary girl catapulted into an extraordinary world meets two even more extraordinary men—but what will she do when she discovers their sexy secret?

Fiona Gillespie moved to London shortly after graduating to take advantage of the opportunities the capital could offer. However, months later, she’s still living in a horrid flat and working in a grimy East End pub. The problem is, she doesn’t really know what she wants to do, career-wise. So when she happens upon an advertisement for a job at a plush Mayfair hotel, she jumps at the chance. A great deal of determination and a spot of luck land Fiona her dream role.
But working at the Totally Five Star London is just the beginning. She adores the role and flourishes, impressing her bosses and making her increasingly determined to climb the career ladder.

While her career is flying, though, her love life is non-existent. She hasn’t even thought about men, never mind met or dated one for months, so when she bumps into two gorgeous businessmen in the hotel, she’s surprised to find her head has been well and truly turned. Even more surprisingly, they flirt with her—both of them! She’s drawn to James and Logan, despite feeling that they’re way out of her league.

When a misunderstanding leads Fiona to James and Logan’s sumptuous top-floor suite, she has no idea what she’s about to uncover. Scenes of people-trafficking, drug-pushing and wild sex parties all appear in her active imagination. Yet what she actually sees is something she’d never even considered before, something that piques her interest.
After discovering their sexy secret, what will she do with this new-found knowledge?

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of anal play, spanking, sex toys and bondage.

Some thoughts from author Lucy Felthouse!
Ever since Totally Bound Publishing first mentioned they were launching the Totally Five Star imprint, I fancied having a go at writing a novel for it. I had (as usual) several projects in my to-write queue, so it wasn’t something I could start straight away. In order to “reserve” my location (each standalone story is set in a different city location around the world) I had to submit a synopsis which would need approval before I started writing.

Therefore, I had to start being specific about what I was going to write! Sometimes, I don’t really know what I’m going to write until I start, but I didn’t have that option this time. And so I put my mind to it… what and who would I create this time?

Because the action in Totally Five Star books has to be centred around a hotel, I figured it would make sense to have the lead character work there. And so Fiona was born—she does (or should I say ends up doing) a job I know a fair bit about, being in PR & Marketing myself, and some of her back story in the lead up to her career is similar to mine (i.e. her degree, her ending up in PR almost by mistake…).

Lead character decided, I needed to figure out who she would meet, where and how. And my brain decided that Fiona, in spite of her innocence and naïveté, should end up with not one man, but two! Just to add another layer of complication, they’re in a committed relationship… with each other. Fiona is well and truly thrown in at the deep end, meeting two gorgeous guys with lots of kinky, sexy secrets. But how will she deal with them? I’m not telling… you’ll have to read the book and find out! 😉

Perhaps needless to say, my inspiration isn’t always particularly kind to my characters. But then, if nothing much happened, it wouldn’t be a very exciting book, would it?

How about a little taste?

Continuing to surreptitiously peer at the men over the rim of her glass, it hit her that this was the first time in months that she’d looked at a man with interest, much less two men—and at the same time! But, ready to snatch her gaze away if one of them happened to glance at her, she realized that it wasn’t surprising that the pair had attracted her attention.

The tailored business suits would draw the eye even on an ugly guy. But on these two, the fine clothing was practically an orgasm for the gaze. They sat opposite each other, and their angle to her meant that she had a view of both their profiles—lucky her.

The one to her right had very dark, almost black hair, with a bit of a curl to it, a long straight nose, a trimmed goatee and, if she wasn’t mistaken, deep blue eyes. It was hard to tell for sure from this distance and perspective.

The one on her left had lighter, shorter hair, stubble that by some magical feat still looked smart, and the most sinful lips she’d ever set eyes on. And speaking of eyes, she thought perhaps his were green. What she wouldn’t give to go and check both of them out close up, preferably naked.

Shocked at her own sudden lustful thoughts, she inhaled more than drank another sip of the juice. Unfortunately, it hit her throat all wrong and she almost slammed the glass down as she started to cough. She tried so hard to suppress the cough, eager not to draw attention to herself, that she made it worse. Snatching up the thick linen serviette from the table, she held it to her mouth as she spluttered in a most embarrassing manner, and tears began to roll down her cheeks. By now, she was sure that the whole damn restaurant was staring at her, and she wished the tablecloths reached the floor, like the ones in the restaurant upstairs, so she could hide under the table until she regained her composure.

Swallowing repeatedly to try to soothe her irritated throat, she gasped as a gentle hand laid on her shoulder, which set her off all over again.

“Oh God,” came a voice. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to make you jump. I just wanted to make sure you were all right. See if I could help.”

Unable to speak, Fiona waved a hand to try to signal that she’d be okay, but unless the guy was a mind reader, he’d have no luck figuring that out. Blinking through the tears that marred her vision, her urge to hide underneath the table grew stronger. Christ, it was only the hottie with the blue eyes. And, if she wasn’t mistaken, his sexy friend with the green eyes was also hovering close by, concern etched into his handsome features.

Managing to drag in a breath, she huffed out, “Thank you.”

Just then, Jeremy arrived with a carafe of water, complete with ice, and poured her a glassful. “Here you go, Fiona. Drink this. Are you all right? Anything else I can get you?”

My Review:

Fiona’s a struggling uni grad, working in a tavern and wondering what to do with her degree in creative writing when she finds a job listing for a PR associate. It sounds like she’s a perfect fit, but the application period closed the day prior! Undaunted, she sends in her resumé, and is ecstatic to learn she got an interview. And, soon, she’s being whisked off to posh Mayfair as the newest member of the Totally Five Star London staff.

As all staff members are able to live in the hotel’s discount employee quarters, Fiona’s really on her way. She loves her job, and she’s making new friends–among them a pair of wealthy guests who are regulars of the exclusive penthouse suites.

James and Logan are delicious. Women and men alike are drawn to them, but they are also funny and sweet–well they charm Fiona, at first. She recognizes that they are a couple, and cannot figure out what they’d want with a woman, but it turns out the James and Logan are bisexual, and have a strong desire to add a third every now and then. If only Fiona will have an open mind…

What she finds upstairs, however, isn’t the tawdry business she suspected. Instead, she finds a kinky tableau that intrigues her, opening her eyes to a wider world of sensuality. I really enjoyed how her expectations were completely flipped, and also how she fit so well with Logan and James’ dynamic. There are some mild scenes of BDSM, but they are not the focus of the action. Instead, it’s more of a passport to a new sexual freedom. As she and the boys explore their kinky sides, she’s excited, but also saddened. It’s tough being a third wheel…but is she really, or is that how she sees herself?

I liked that Fiona was a strong, independent woman. She went after what she wanted, be it a new job, a promotion, or a kink education. She was fearless, and I think that’s what really drove James and Logan to dig their hooks in–she was an equal part of their experience by the end, and a happy threesome they made.

It’s smoking hot, and (bonus!) has a plot. *swoon*

They Found Themselves SATED–Review & Giveaway

tourbutton_sated
Hi there! Today I’m sharing my review for SATED, an erotic paranormal, menage novella from Lucy Felthouse. This one is a real scorcher!

There’s an excerpt below and also a giveaway for a $10 AllRomance gift card, too!

SatedAbout the book:
A human, a vampire and a werewolf walked into a bar. Sexy is what happens next.

Since getting together with her vampire boyfriend, Ace, Aneesa is enjoying a sex life she could never have with a human. Ace has skill, strength, stamina…and is massively adventurous. Aneesa is checking things off her sexual bucket list at a rate of knots. However, she hasn’t even come close to experiencing the ultimate item on her list. So when Ace beats her to it, proposing a threesome with his werewolf friend, Barton, Aneesa’s definitely up for it.

Barton is attractive, smart and sexy—almost too good to be true, in fact. Aneesa decides not to jump straight into things, but makes sure it’s what she truly wants. However, it turns out Barton’s not so easily dissuaded.

Will Aneesa get the ultimate erotic experience she’s desired for so long? Will she be truly sated, or is the plan doomed to failure?

Some thoughts from the author:
A Human, a Vampire and a Werewolf by Lucy Felthouse (@cw1985)

I had a couple of people ask me why I combined a human, a vampire and a werewolf in this story. The short answer is that the call for submissions for the story asked for humans, vampires and werewolves. Not all of them, necessarily, but as it was a paranormal call for submissions, clearly there had to be either a vampire or a werewolf. I decided to go whole hog and throw all three species into the mix and see what happened! Since the call also specified the stories should be ménage, it was an easy decision.

The call had heavy emphasis on the characters having needs, desires, an unquenchable thirst… I let my mind wander and it soon provided me with the solution. Along came Aneesa, a sassy, gorgeous Indian chick with lots of sexy needs and one hell of a bucket list. Add in one gorgeous vampire boyfriend with some useful contacts, and I ended up with a steamy story that garnered this reaction from a reviewer:

“This book ticked all of these boxes and then some. Aneesa is the luckiest human lady alive. Not only does she have a hot vampire boyfriend named Ace who ramps up the kink in her life but now his horny werewolf friend Barton wants a share too. I loved this story, it completely captivated me and I devoured it all in one sitting. The steamy ménage action is first class and scorching. I only have one complaint, I wanted more, more, more!” Karen Shenton

I had great fun writing this story, and I hope readers enjoy it, too!

Happy Reading,

Lucy x

How about a little taste?

With a quick nod, Barton turned back to the bar and attempted to get the attention of a member of staff. I took the opportunity to study Barton in greater detail without him knowing. Quite honestly, I really enjoyed what I saw. He was a tad taller than Ace, making him maybe three inches over six feet. Tight—but not obscenely so—jeans covered what looked like a very grabbable, bitable backside and thick thighs that were in perfect proportion with the rest of him. A narrow waist flared out to wide shoulders, encased in a short-sleeved T-shirt which showed off his physique. His arms, of course, were muscular, and looked as though even if he hadn’t been a werewolf, that he could throw me around in the bedroom. Mmm…

He also had a couple of tattoos peeking out of his sleeves, but I couldn’t see them properly. Providing things worked out, I’d have the opportunity to study his ink in great detail later. That and the rest of his no doubt delectable body.

Having stared for longer than was polite, even though he was facing the other way, I shifted my attention to Ace, who was watching me with an amused expression on his face.

“You like?” he mouthed.

I waggled my eyebrows theatrically in response, stopping suddenly as Barton turned to us, holding our drinks. We both took the ice-cold glasses and murmured our thanks.

“So,” Barton said, snagging his own drink, “shall we go and grab a booth?”

“Absolutely,” Ace replied, “lead the way, mate.”

As we followed Barton past a group of guys at the pool table, I tried to get my brain in gear for some conversation. Although I hadn’t said it out loud, I did want to get to know him better before I considered getting naked and horizontal with him, so I needed to figure out what to say. I couldn’t rely on Ace and Barton to get the chatter going—they might fall into reminiscing about times gone by, or talking about sports or people I didn’t know.

As we reached an empty booth right in the corner, Ace stood aside and let me sit down first. I slid along the vinyl seat, and he moved in beside me. Barton sat opposite us, his bulk filling a good chunk of the space on his side of the table.

Damn, he really was handsome. I took a long swallow of my drink, using the time to check him out some more. His chin-length dark hair looked soft, strokeable—ideal for tangling one’s fingers into. And maybe tugging. His eyes were brown, with laughter lines at the corners, which were always a positive note in my book. If someone laughed a lot, then they were either fun, or had a lot of fun. Both were good with me. His nose was long, not over-large, and had been broken, likely more than once. Finally, his mouth—possibly the best part of him. That I could see, anyway. Sinful, tempting lips, straight white teeth, and a dimple in his left cheek.

Putting my glass down on the table, I crunched on an ice cube, preparing to ask my first question to get the conversational ball rolling. Barton beat me to it.

My Review:
This is a quickie ménage scene that answers the question: what happens when a vampire, a werewolf and a human walk into bar?

Aneesa is a human in love with a sexy, non-sparkling vampire, Ace. They’ve been dating for eight years, enjoying the many splendors of love with each other, but both have a ‘bucket list’ ménage fantasy to tick off. Ace has chatted with his friend, Barton, a werewolf with an insatiable sex drive, about the possibilities, and he’s down for it. (Or should I say up for it?) Regardless, Barton wants to get it on, and isn’t above a bit of (harmless) stalking to get the party rolling.

Thing is, Aneesa’s simultaneously put off and aroused by Barton’s interest. The deed goes forth with sexy results.

For a sexy short, it packs a lot of heat, and the whimsical writing kept me smiling throughout. Looking forward to more…

Together They Learned In NATIVE TONGUE–Review Giveaway & Excerpt

tourbutton_nativetongueHi there! Today I’m sharing my review for Lucy Felthouse’s NATIVE TONGUE. This is a contemporary M/M military romance novella which is the sequel to DESERT HEAT, and features British officer Hugh Wilkes and his first committed lover, linguist and medical student, Rustam Balkhi. Don’t forget to drop down below and enter the giveaway!

Native Tongue (Desert Heat #2)About the book:
They may be back on British soil, but the battle isn’t over.

When Captain Hugh Wilkes fell for his Afghan interpreter, Rustam Balkhi, he always knew things would never be easy. After months of complete secrecy, their return to England should have spelt an end to the sneaking around and the insane risks. But it seems there are many obstacles for them to overcome before they can truly be happy together. Can they get past those obstacles, or is this one battle too many for their fledgling relationship?

Thank you so much for having me here today. I’m delighted to share an excerpt from Native Tongue which shows the boys, Hugh and Rustam, out in Soho, the gay-friendly area in London. They’re still trying to settle into their relationship and get used to not having to hide who they are. They’ve also bumped into a couple of out-and-proud gay gays who are intrigued by their story. Happy Reading,

Lucy x

Many thanks to Lucy! So, how about a little taste?

Lots of handshaking between the four men ensued as they were all introduced.

“So,” Jared said, glancing between Wilkes and Balkhi, “would it be okay if we joined you?”

Wilkes turned to Balkhi. “Are you okay with this?”

Balkhi seemed a little taken aback by the whole situation, but there was warmth in his eyes. “Yes, of course. I suspect Jared and Paul will be able to give us some… insider information that we might find useful.”

“Excellent!” Jared clapped his hands, then reached for Paul’s hand once more. “Okay, let’s go. I’m looking forward to this.”

With that, Jared and Paul turned around and began walking down the street.

Wilkes looked at Balkhi, shook his head, and shrugged. “I’ve no idea what just happened there, but it looks as though we’re in for an interesting evening.”

Balkhi smiled, and as they fell into step behind the other couple, he leaned in close to Wilkes and said, “Yes, I think we are. And the best part is I get to take you home afterwards.”

The true intent of his words was unmistakeable. Wilkes’ heart missed a beat. Warmth flooded his face, then the blood started to flow somewhere much lower down. He managed to engage his brain enough to reply, “Carry on saying things like that and we won’t even make it to the bloody restaurant.”

Chuckling, Balkhi reached out and took Wilkes’ hand again. “Yes, we will. We have made it this far, and we are doing well. Let’s see this through. Spending the evening with other gay men will be good for us. We will be able to see how it is done.”

“I don’t think it’s as simple as that, Rustam. We can’t just copy everything they do.”

“I know. I simply mean that being in their company may relax us, remind us that it is perfectly normal, and perfectly okay, for two men to be affectionate towards each other in public. I am not proposing we start kissing in front of an audience, or fucking on the restaurant table. I am just saying we may learn something from them. Or we may not. But they seem like nice people, so it cannot hurt to find out, can it?”

“Now you’re the one who’s absolutely right. Though I’m glad you don’t want to kiss or fuck in public.”

“Why?”

“Because,” he growled, pulling Balkhi closer and speaking quietly into his ear, “I don’t want to share you with anyone else, that’s why.”

A small smile crept over Balkhi’s lips. “And I do not want to be shared. We may not have any idea what we are doing here, but make no mistake, Hugh. I am yours, and yours alone.”

Wilkes felt an urge to lean over and give Balkhi a quick kiss, but his bravery didn’t stretch quite that far. Not yet. They were still holding hands, which was a great start, but perhaps it would be better to get used to that before doing anything else.

Internally, he shook his head. Why the hell was this so hard for them? Why couldn’t they just throw caution to the wind and show affection however they wanted?

Because, he reminded himself sternly, they couldn’t break long-standing habits in the blink of an eye. They’d get there, he was sure of it. It would take time, but they’d get there.

Realising he hadn’t replied to Balkhi, he squeezed his hand. “And I am yours, Rustam. For as long as you’ll have me.”

teaser_nativetongue copyMy Review:
This is the second book in a series; it is best read in sequence.
4.5 stars for this happy sequel.

Hugh Wilkes is home for Afghanistan and looking forward to reconnecting with his lover/translator Rustam Balkhi–an Afghan native who has returned to London to continue his medical schooling. These two had an illicit relationship while stationed together at a British base camp, but, in England, they have the opportunity to be out and proud with each other.

Over the course of a few weeks, they meet on weekends and practice being out together in public. It is a big adjustment to come out of the closet. They have lots of sexytimes and some small misadventures, but they tackle them together–not least of which is Hugh coming out to his family.

There is some mild angst, but the book is short and the pace is brisk. The bulk of the book is highly positive, with a story centered on two men building a positive, loving relationship. It is sweet and tender, with a good dash of heat.

A DIFFERENT KIND OF (sexy!) COSPLAY–My Review

Hi all! today I want to share my review of a super kinky/sexy novella recently released by Lucy Felthouse. I’ve shared reviews of some of her work before–Pack of Lies, Brit Boys: On Boys and Unconditional Surrender–but A DIFFERENT KIND OF COSPLAY is a fun M/F romp that I zipped through–and seriously considered “gifting” to my own hubby…. 😉

A Different Kind of CosplayAbout the book:

Zachary has a dilemma. His girlfriend, Reese, has a special birthday coming up soon and he has absolutely no clue what to get for her. It doesn’t help that Zach does not share or really understand Reese’s biggest hobby—comic books, superheroes and everything that goes with them. Zach raids Reese’s DVD collection for inspiration, and what he finds there gives him an idea…possibly the best one he’s ever had.

Sure, Reese has fantasized about her favorite superheroes. All those muscles and rakish smiles are to die for. She didn’t think Zach would ever really understand, though. But he proves her wrong in the best way possible.

My Review:
Zach’s girlfriend, Reece, is due to celebrate her 30th birthday and he doesn’t know what to do about it. See, Reece is a doctor, and her schedule is too tight and unpredictable to plan a weekend in Paris, as he would prefer. He wants to get her something totally memorable, and the idea sparks:  Reece loves comics, and she’s a goner for the Avengers. He visits her fave comic shop and that’s when he pieces together a plan–to make a sexy cosplay for his geeky, beautiful, brilliant girlfriend.

Zach orders costumes for Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye and Captain America, and builds his own Bruce Banner, studying the comic lore for details of each, all in the effort to build an unforgettable seduction for Reece. The birthday surprise? Let’s just say Reece is one satisfied lady.

This is full-on erotica, and full-frontal cosplay. Such a fun, kinky, premise and delish steamy scenes. Reece is charmed by Zach’s gift, and they make some plans to advance this kink….

Loki anyone?

It’s a delicious, sexy erotic novella sure to appeal to folks who like role-play, cosplay, kinky vanilla, and The Avengers.

They Unravel the PACK OF LIES–A Review

Hi all! Today I’m reviewing a new steamy paranormal mystery from Lucy Felthouse. PACK OF LIES has two werewolf brothers who live in a remote village in Derbyshire–and each man wants to keep his secrets safe….

Pack of Lies

Doncha love a sexy cover?

About the book:

Werewolf brothers Matthew and Isaac have lived in the peaceful village of Eyam all their lives. The villagers know what happens every full moon, and are happy to keep their secret. But their privacy comes at a cost—neither brother has taken a lover in almost four hundred years.

Then at the full moon, a sheep is slaughtered on Eyam Moor, by what could only be an animal. A large, vicious animal. Even the brothers’ staunchest supporters begin to have their doubts. Meanwhile Isaac is smitten by a handsome newcomer to the village, while a vivacious visitor is happy to offer Matthew her all.

As they indulge their lust, they must clear their names and convince their neighbours that they aren’t also letting their baser instincts out to play.

Inside Scoop: This book contains sizzling scenes of both M/M and M/F sex.

My Review:

Matthew and Issac Adams are 400 year old werewolves. They live in Eyam, a tiny town in Derbyshire, where they have spent their entire lives. Hundreds of years ago the residents of Eyam had experienced Plague, and Matthew and Issac had helped to protect the town, and its inhabitants, during the outbreak by nursing the sick, and burying the dead. To this day they protect the current residents and their livestock from harm. They change into wolves once-monthly, on the full moon, but remain trapped in caves underground in order to protect themselves and the villagers from harm.

Being that Eyam is a remote village filled mainly with generations of families who had survived the Plague there are many resident who know Matthew and Issac are werewolves. Both men live in harmony with the villagers; Matthew works at the local pub, and Issac is a doctor. Neither man will engage in a long-term relationship knowing that they have a secret to keep, and their longevity is troublesome in that they do not wish to watch their partner age and die while they do not. Matthew is heterosexual and Issac is gay, though he is not “out”.

At the point of the beginning, Matthew and Issac are emerging from their cave night, and learn that someone has slaughtered a sheep. This is a big problem, in that it was made to look as if a vicious animal had torn the sheep apart, and eyes begin to turn towards Matthew and Issac. They have allies on their sides, but they know that they are under scrutiny, and attempt to determine who had committed the crime, with little success. The next month’s full moon some villagers attempt to follow the brothers into the caves and witness their change. It is a foolish and dangerous enterprise, and still there is a gutted sheep and no proof it wasn’t Matthew and Issac.

During the next month, supporters plan out how to 1. verify Matthew and Issac’s innocence and 2. capture the culprit. This is imperative because both men know if the slaughters continue to recur soon the town will turn against them, and they will be “outed” to the world at large. The wait and the plan is too nerve-wracking for the brothers, and they argue with themselves a bit until they FINALLY begin to blow off steam in some very sexy ways.

Matthew finds a vacationer who appeals greatly, while Issac admits his interest in a newcomer to town–Nathaniel. There are some deliciously sensual interludes, of the Het and Homo variety, that bridge the mystery. When we finally learn who the sheep gutter is (well, I picked up on the WHO right away) it’s unfortunate that the WHY was unsatisfying. And, when I say unsatisfying, I mean I didn’t want it to be for the reasons explained (I had also thought there might be a bit more of a paranormal turn in the motive, but no…) because, dammit, I wanted both Adams brothers to have a happy ending, and it WASN’T for one of them.

Well, that is, it wasn’t a happy ending THEN. Because, as it turned out, both men end up finding their best partner not too long after.

It was a fun tale with some steamy scenes and emotional connections. Both Matthew and Issac take turns telling this story and there was a lot of well-considered characterization that surpassed the whole Alpha wolf dynamic of most shifter novels. The loneliness the men experience, of watching generation after generation pass, making friends they will later bury, was palpable. I was so glad to watch them really connect with lovers beyond the one night stand. The book is chock full of Eyam history, and I loved the colloquial speech.
