Lots and Lots of Manlove–BRIT BOYS: ON BOYS–A Review and Giveaway!

20150107-071524.jpg

Hi there! Today I’m reviewing BRIT BOYS: ON BOYS, a collection of 8 M/M novellas written by 8 top British M/M authors. This anthology is currently priced $.99 through January, so you may want to scoop this one up right away if you like M/M at all.

bb-box_jpeg - CopyAbout the book:
From east to west and north to south, these British boys are having a blast in and out of the bedroom with the men of their dreams. They’re topping and bottoming from London to Cardiff, living out fantasies in the wildest fells and hooking up while serving HRH Queen Elizabeth II.

With passion and lust the name of the game, nothing is off limits. Throw in honed muscles, high-strength testosterone and an accent to die for and there is nothing they can’t do and no one they can’t get in this world or another.
***This is an adult read for explicit depictions of sex***

My Review:
M/M Romance + Brit speak = SWOON! I’m a noted Anglophile and a huge fan of gay romance so putting both of these into a giant anthology is a dream-come-true, for me. This 8-novella compilation is mainly contemporary romance, but has a couple curve-balls, too.

All the books have sex on the page, and it is totally steamy. Below are some quick reviews of each story. Beware: There’s a whole lotta manlove going on, and I adored every word of it.

Contemporary Boy on Boy:
Bodywork by Ashe Barker puts Graham in the path of Alex, quite literally. A fender-bender links these two lonely men with each other in a way that transcends the accidental. Of course, secrets from the past creep in, but love wins out…eventually.

Breaking The Marine by MK Elliott is a military romance. Brandon enlists in the Marines to escape an empty life heading for prison. He meets a random stranger, Will, the night before boot camp, and their tryst is hot and quick–with no plan to re-engage. Unfortunately, Drill Instructor Will Stewart wasn’t prepared to have Brandon in his service. The tension is high, and the passion simmers as these two continue clandestine relations. Going Commando was never so hot.

Love on Location by Lucy Felthouse matches rising star Theo Samuels with a cast extra, Eddie. Problem? Theo is closeted, and he can’t imagine a relationship with the demands of his acting schedule. Eddie’s younger and not out, either. Plus, he’s essentially jobless and not sure of his career path. There’s a bit of kerfuffle regarding the state of attraction, but the end result is bliss.

Locked Out by Josephine Myles puts a timid kindergarten teacher in the role of aggressor. Martin spends his Valentine’s consoling his sister–after her dramatic break-up–at a posh hotel. Drunk and needing the facilities, he finds himself naked and locked out of his hotel room in the middle of the night. Rod greets Martin with humor, and interest. Martin, ashamed to have never even had a single one-nighter, employs his sister’s advice, finding that Rod is all too happy to have a dominant lover. The encounter stayed with Martin, even if he ducked away without a trace. Imagine his surprise finding Rod is new to their town, and eager to renew their…acquaintance.

Contemporary Boy On BOYS….
The Chase by Lily Harlem features a couple–Steve and Robert–who are only just reconciling, on the scavenger hunt for Carrick, an up-and-coming comedian who has expressed an interest in a menage meet-up. While Steve and Robert seek clues in the bitter cold, they reconnect. And the eventual tryst is wet and wild.

Dish of the Day by Clare London matches three best friends into a new menage romance. Richie’s worked his way from line cook to head chef. On the night of his first opening as a restauranteur everything goes amiss. Busted crockery, drunken sous chefs, thieving employees…Richie’s two steps from mental when his college mates, Craig and Ben arrive. Their confession–that the opening isn’t going off–is the last thing Richie wants to hear. Good thing they’re prepared to ease his mind, and body, in the most delicious way.

For those who love something different:
E2 by Sarah Masters is a sci-fi post-apocalytic romance featuring Dan and Archie. The Change has wrought devastation on London, a fate Archie escaped only by having called in sick to work the day the stones fell from the sky. Still, he’s lonely and all his family was killed in the destruction, or so he thinks. A chance encounter with Dan, a refugee from The Other Side, leaves Archie with more questions than answers, and the knowledge of a governmental plot to determine the root of homosexuality.

Landscapes by KD Grace is a paranormal romance that features an interesting triad–between Alonzo, Reese and Talia. I really enjoyed the interplay between the dream-state and the reality. And, though Reese had every reason to be angry with Alonzo’s machinations, I was glad they resolved their quarrel.

Interested? You can find BRIT BOYS: ON BOYS on Goodreads, Amazon US, Amazon UK, Amazon AU, Amazon CA, All Romance eBooks, Barnes & Noble, iBooks, and Kobo. This smokin’ hot box set is initially available at the bargain price of 99c/99p, that’s a steal for 147,000 words/440 pages of unforgettable M/M erotic romance that will leave your eReader, and you, burning up. Be sure and grab your copy fast, as the price will be increasing at the end of January!

Some cool words from these awesome British M/M authors
Where are you from in the UK and does this influence your writing?

M.K. Elliott
I’m from Devon, but I’m not sure if this influences my writing or not. I guess in the case of ‘Breaking the Marine’ where I am from was quite useful as the Marine Commando School is just down the road and I’ve driven past it numerous times. But I’ve lived in several other countries and places in the UK, plus I’m married to a Kiwi, so I like to think I’m fairly multicultural.

Lucy Felthouse
I’m from south Derbyshire, in England. Pretty much right in the middle of the country. In fact I’m just a few miles from the village which is officially the furthest from the sea in England. It doesn’t consciously influence my writing, I don’t think, because I write stories set all over the UK, depending on my inspiration. Some of my much shorter works could, in theory, be set anywhere. But I guess, because I don’t spend much time by the sea, that more of my stories are set inland. I have a particular fondness for stately homes and the British countryside, which I think is clear in my work, especially my novella in this collection!

Clare London
I was born by the seaside at Brighton, but have lived most of my life in London. It’s a busier, more cosmopolitan area than other parts of Britain, so I hope to reflect that in my characters.

KD Grace
I live in Surrey not far from London in what is known as ‘the Soft South,’ and while some of my stories are set in and around London, a lot of them are set in the Lake District because if there’s a place in the UK where my heart is, it’s there.

Ashe Barker
I grew up in Yorkshire, and still live there although I travel a lot. I think it does influence my writing as I often draw on Yorkshire characters and places for inspiration. I feel a sort of responsibility too, to present the place I love in a good light. I want readers to like it too.

Sarah Masters
I’ve recently moved “oop north” from the south, but most of my life I’ve lived in Oxfordshire. I can’t imagine writing a Northern tale, so yes, my southern upbringing influences my writing.

Lily Harlem
I lived in London for a long time, working as a nurse in a busy trauma unit. I now live in the countryside, in Wales. I love it here, it’s very peaceful which makes it perfect for writing. I’m lucky in that I have lots of memories and characters to draw on from a time when my life was crazy busy. The space and the open fields and of course the coast give my imagination time and space to run wild. I do most of my plotting when walking on the beach with my dogs.

Josephine Myles
I’m originally from Buckinghamshire, one of the “Home Counties” making up the London commuter belt. However, I’ve spent all of my adult life in my adopted home of Somerset, and I set most of my stories out here in the West. People in the West Country seem to be more down to earth than Londoners, and there’s an interesting mix of hippies, artisans and now media types who’ve moved down here and regenerated some of the run-down towns. All of this makes for an interesting backdrop to a story, and I often write about creative characters who’ve come west for a better life.

Go on and check out these fab writers! Ashe Barker, K. Elliott, Lucy Felthouse, K D Grace, Lily Harlem, Clare London, Sarah Masters, Josephine Myles

There Was Love AFTER US–Review and Giveaway

afterus-blogtour copy
Hi there! Today I’m sharing my review for AFTER US, a gritty YA romance newly-released by Amber Hart. I really enjoyed this one.

afterusAbout the book:
“Beautiful, lyrical writing and a dangerously suspenseful plot. . .an unforgettable novel that readers will love.” –Lucy Connors, author of The Lonesome Young

Sometimes secrets kill. Maybe slowly, maybe painfully. Maybe all at once.

Melissa smiles. She flirts. She jokes. But she never shows her scars. Eight months after tragedy ripped her from her closest friend, Melissa is broken. Inside her grows a tumor, fed by grief, rage, and the painful memory of a single forbidden kiss.

Javier has scars of his own: a bullet wound, and the memory of a cousin shot in the heart. Life in the States was supposed to be a new beginning, but a boy obsessed by vengeance has no time for the American dream. To honor his familia, Javier joins the gang who set up his cousin’s murder. The entrance price is blood. Death is the only escape.

These two broken souls could make each other whole again–or be shattered forever.
Our time will come. And we’ll be ready.

My Review:
This review contains SOME mild spoilers. This is the second book in a series, and I have not read the first. I was never at a loss in this story, however. And it’s a read I truly enjoyed.

Melissa is eighteen and a waitress at a beach resort in Florida. She wants to go to college, but her dream is on hold because Melissa’s life is essentially on hold. Five months ago she was diagnosed with cancer and though she has recovered from the surgery physically, the emotional scars remain. Four weeks remain before Melissa will have her post-op tests to determine if she needs chemotherapy. Melissa is adrift, and unable to discuss her fears with her close-knit family consisting of her mother and three older sisters. Melissa’s father abandoned their family when she was ten, and she knows she’s better off without his abuse, but she still feels slighted, rejected, even.

Life is funny like that. Life gives you things you never asked for and takes away things you’ve always dreamed of. I wonder where life gets the nerve.

These are feelings she’d discuss with her BFF Faith, but Faith had a mental breakdown after her boyfriend, Diego, was murdered by gangs and she has moved to Venezuela to build schools in rural villages. Despite many calls and messages, Faith rarely calls back. And, when she does, Melissa is too trapped in grief, anger and guilt she can’t confide.

One person to whom Melissa begins to open up is Javier. Javier is a Cuban-American from a family of refugees. He met Melissa through his cousin, Diego, and seeing her on the beach ignites his revenge. If she can get him in touch with Faith, then maybe he can find out more about the gang members who killed Diego.

I think about how he fits perfectly with me. How we’re made from this mold that’s so different but that we both, shapes of our own, fit into this space rightly.

Javier is attracted to Melissa, as well, and makes both desires clear when they find some privacy. One thing he neglects to reveal: his mama is highly against any of her children dating/marrying white people. Her prejudice is a palpable force in Javier’s large family, and Javier has witness his mother putting his elder brothers’ white girlfriends out of their home.

Love, I think is love to blame.
And I understand, for the first time, that life does offer more than violence and hunger and trying to survive. Sometimes, if you want it bad enough, life will even give you a chance to become something better.

While Javier is dealing with the impossible position of falling for a gringa (white girl) he is also getting “jumped in” to the gang that orchestrated Diego’s murder. It’s a delicate balance and he fails at avoiding discovery. Melissa had just begun to trust him, but she won’t be with a gangbanger. If nothing else, having cancer has taught her that life is exquisitely valuable, and shouldn’t be wasted in violence or revenge.

Her growing affection is shattered, and he has a lot of hard work to regain her trust. Their clashes over this lead Melissa to seek out Faith, and find the truth behind Javier’s pointless quest.

At first, I was unhappy with Javier and the whole bad-boy theme that seemed to permeate the book. Melissa has a lot on her plate, and even more to live for. I didn’t want her to get caught up with a gangbanging avenger, but (like Melissa), eventually, I could see Javier’s quest was more than idleness. Diego and he were raised together and close as brothers. Javier’s grief was extreme. In the end, when presented with the opportunity for the ultimate revenge, Javier’s actions were surprisingly tempered. I like to think he made the decisions he did because he had a new respect for life due to finding love with Melissa.

I mean, if a young man is going to stand up for his girlfriend against his mother’s most strenuous objections, then he can surely withstand the bloodlust for a guilty man’s life. Perhaps.

The end is quite good, right amount of twists, not too much on the sap. I was immediately in mind of Simone Elkeles’ PERFECT CHEMISTRY series while reading this book. It’s a good blend of growing affection, well-timed plot twists and honesty. The characters are solid, serious people facing real-life issues of life and death. While there is a clear romance, the language and activities are age-appropriate for teen readers, with no explicit sexual content.

I received an advanced copy of this book via NetGalley.

Hi there! Today is the release day launch for For Valentine’s the nightcap novella to Kat and Stone Bastion’s No Wedding series. I’ve been posting about this couple’s romantic journey since September, and just in time for Valentine’s Day we get a super steamy conclusion to this true love story. And for release day only, you can get a signed digital copy with a bonus scene from Hannah!!! Be sure to check out this fantastic novella and grab your copy today!!

FV_AmazonGRSWFor Valentine’s Synopsis:
This steamy nightcap novella, the fifth book in the No Weddings Series, takes us on a post-happily-ever-after adventure as Cade attempts to rewrite Valentine’s Day with his new wife, Hannah.

Wedded bliss. After everything Hannah and I have been through, we finally have it. Yet dark dreams from my troubled past continue to escalate as we approach Valentine’s Day. Determined to fill our present with great memories that overtake all others, I plan a trip to New York—down to every scheduled detail. Yeah, there will even be a musical.

But Mother Nature has a few tricks up her sleeve. And the universe keeps throwing us curveballs…
*** PLEASE NOTE *** Scorching (explicit) sex scenes. Fire extinguisher highly recommended.

My Review:
A nice cap to the No Weddings Series.

Hannah and Cade are newly married and building a new business together. It seems they are poised on the brink of happiness, yet Cade has recurrent nightmares that increase in intensity as Valentine’s Day nears. Three years ago he had his heart mutilated by this then-girlfriend who not only didn’t accept his marriage proposal, she confessed to infidelity right at the dining table. He was crushed so bad he never expected to find love again–then Hannah came along.

Their love story hasn’t been all sugar kisses and love dumplings. They had to work to trust each other, become friends, and then lovers. In fact, their wedding was more a surprise than an event.

In an effort to create all new scorching memories with Hannah, banishing his traitorous nightmares, Cade plans a romantic NYC escape–and nothing, not a car wreck, nor lost reservations, nor missing the first act of WICKED will put a damper on his plan.

This is a fun, sexy way to close out Hannah and Cade’s love story. They find a way to turn every irritation into titillation, every wrong turn into Oh, Baby…

Expect copious copulation and kinky kitchen antics. And a resolution that’ll put a sappy smile on your face.

Exclusive Excerpt:

When Hannah removed her hand from my crotch, cooler air seeped through the denim. Then her soft lips touched my earlobe seconds before hard teeth tugged on it. She reached over to the ignition and twisted the key, cutting the engine. “We won’t need the heat for a while.”

She was right. Windows? Already fogging.

The coat that she’d been huddling under only seconds ago, slid off of her as she shifted and knelt onto her seat. She bundled up the woolen material and tossed it into the back.

I’d planned this trip to be amazing, to get my troubling dreams in line with my incredible reality, and when we hit a little black-ice speed bump? Hannah grabbed the wheel…

My pulse kicked up at the desire in her darkened eyes. Needing to touch her, I slid a hand up her thigh.

My one-track mind screeched to a halt. “Uh…” Those knit-tight things still clung to her legs. “How do you propose we have sex with these things on?” I pinched the material away from her skin, then released it. The fabric was so soft, it didn’t even snap against her skin properly. I scowled. “These come off.”

She shook her head with an amused smile. “No. They’re keeping me warm. Besides, who said you’re getting any? We said ‘making out.’”

I choked out a laugh. “For over an hour? You trying to kill me with blue balls?”

That luscious lip of hers disappeared behind her teeth as she negotiated carefully around the gearshift to attempt to straddle my lap. Not in any way resembling merely “making out.” Interesting.

With my long legs, the seat was already adjusted back as far as possible. The steering wheel had nowhere to else go. But none of the cramped quarters made any difference to my determined woman. And she fit perfectly.

As her body settled over mine, all soft curves and temptation underneath the thin fabric of her dress, her lips brushed over my ear. “I promise you won’t die. And there will be no blue balls.”

Translation: sex.

She just wanted to play a little. Or a lot.

And I was the happiest fucking man on Earth to be her toy.

Her lips began a sensual path over my skin, trailing below my ear, dotting small kisses over my jawbone, until she reached my chin. Then she paused and swallowed hard.

Her chest heaved up and down, breasts pressing against me with every inhalation. Her fingers found their way into my hair, cradling the back of my head. Her intense gaze penetrated down deep, piercing my heart. “I love you, Cade Michaelson.”

My lips curved into a smile. Before I had a chance to respond, her eyes drifted closed and she kissed me. Not hard and rough. Not urgent. She took her time, savoring each touch. Her tongue tasted mine, then her lips closed, denying me access. Until she sucked on my lower lip.

Unhurried, lazy and seductive, she backed up her words with her body. Our lips touching was the only skin to skin, but her body undulated over mine. Hips arched, then curved against me in slow rhythm. Her fingers tugged at my hair.

I groaned and closed my eyes, my cock hardening painfully behind my denim button fly. But I didn’t pull the plug on her slow seduction. Nothing in the world would make me take control away from her.

After an attack by the Coalition leaves THIRDS Team Leader Sloane Brodie critically injured, agent Dexter J. Daley swears to make Beck Hogan pay for what he’s done. But Dex’s plans for retribution are short-lived. With Ash still on leave with his own injuries, Sloane in the hospital, and Destructive Delta in the Coalition’s crosshairs, Lieutenant Sparks isn’t taking any chances. Dex’s team is pulled from the case, with the investigation handed to Team Leader Sebastian Hobbs. Dex refuses to stand by while another team goes after Hogan, and decides to put his old HPF detective skills to work to find Hogan before Theta Destructive, no matter the cost.

With a lengthy and painful recovery ahead of him, the last thing Sloane needs is his partner out scouring the city, especially when the lies—however well intentioned—begin to spiral out of control. Sloane is all too familiar with the desire to retaliate, but some things are more important, like the man who’s pledged to stand beside him. Excerpt:

“YOU’RE GOING to get us fucking killed!”

Dex ignored Ash and hit the gas, speeding after the ambulance heading up route 9A toward NY Presbyterian Hospital, its wailing siren and flashing lights an unyielding reminder of what he stood to lose. The ambulance had left before them, but Dex was in his Challenger with its own THIRDS installed lights flickering and sending out a warning to everyone around him to get the hell out of his way.

When Ash finally released Dex from his iron grip, Dex had stood on the sidewalk in front of his house, amidst the smoke and burning car parts unable to believe what had happened. He’d been at a loss, watching the chaos unfold as emergency teams and THIRDS agents flooded the scene. Orders had been shouted, the area evacuated, blue and black THIRDS tape marking off his personal disaster zone. And then a bright orange beacon parked near the end of the block gave him clarity.

Dex maneuvered through four lanes of traffic, changing gears and working the pedals. No one knew how to drive his baby like he did, and nothing on God’s green earth was going to make him lose that ambulance. Not with Sloane in the back of it fighting for his life.

Sloane….

No matter how hard Dex tried, his head kept replaying the scene like a goddamn looped video: Dex bolting for the front door, not caring what might be on the other side—getting to Sloane had been all that mattered. He has to be okay. Please God, let him be okay.

Clouds of thick black smoke. The sidewalk in front of his house looking like a war zone, littered with debris and pieces of twisted car parts. The trees on fire. Dex tackled to the ground, the breath stolen from his lungs. Ash on him keeping him safe. Bullets flying. Sloane under a piece of mangled door. Screeching sirens and uniformed bodies rushing in. Blood everywhere. Sloane unmoving. A jagged piece of metal sticking out of his side. Blood, so much blood.

It should have been me.
“Fuck! Mother fucking asshole son of a bitch!” Dex slammed his hand against the steering wheel before swerving around some bastard going the speed limit. He was losing his shit. It was fast approaching much like the yellow—soon to be red—light ahead of him, yet he was helpless to stop it. The Challenger flew past the red, missing an oncoming taxi by inches.

“Enough!” Ash snapped at him. “You’re gonna get us fucking killed! Keep your shit together and get us to the fucking hospital in one goddamn piece, or I swear to Christ I will fucking knock your ass out and drive us there myself.”

Dex wanted to tell Ash where he could stick his threats, but he didn’t. He heard Ash suck in a sharp breath, and Dex eased his foot off the accelerator just enough to keep the ambulance’s flashing lights in sight a few cars ahead. Ash held on to the passenger door with one hand, his other pressed against his side to ease the pain along with the slow trickle of blood seeping through his torn stitches. Stitches he’d torn saving Dex.

“Sorry,” Dex said through his teeth. They were almost at the hospital, which meant more traffic. “Sorry for being an asshole and for what I’m about to do. Hold on.” He hit the gas pedal again, and the engine thundered as he raced forward. After a couple of close calls, they got to the hospital before the ambulance. He skidded into valet parking, put the Challenger in park, jumped out, and tossed the keys to the valet guy. Ignoring his teammate’s bitching, Dex called out over his shoulder for Ash to take care of it. The ambulance arrived seconds later, and Dex ran up to it, watching with his heart in his throat as the backdoors swung open and the EMTs rushed out. The gurney swiftly emerged with Sloane strapped down on his uninjured side, an oxygen mask covering his nose and mouth, and the jagged metal piece jutting out from the right side of his torso. Removing it without surgery was clearly out of the question.

Dex followed the EMTs as they rushed Sloane through the huge open glass doorway into the hospital, shouting out codes and medical jargon Dex couldn’t make out. One of the EMTs said something about the THIRDS, and a Therian nurse behind the desk snatched up a phone and rambled something off. Within seconds, a handful of Therian doctors and nurses came running, joining the EMTs as they stole Sloane away into a wide, brightly lit corridor. Dex attempted to follow only to have his path blocked by two male Therian nurses.

“He’s my partner,” Dex pleaded, trying to get around them.

“I’m sorry, sir, but you can’t go in there.”

“The hell I can’t. He’s my partner!” Dex grabbed one of the nurses when a pair of beefy arms wrapped around Dex’s waist, lifting him off his feet and away. “Fuck off, Ash! Get off!” He couldn’t leave Sloane in there all alone. Sloane hated hospitals as it was. What if he woke up and freaked out? What if he didn’t know where he was? What if something happened and Dex wasn’t there? He couldn’t lose Sloane now. It wasn’t Sloane’s time. They hadn’t had enough time!

“You’re not the only one who needs him.”

Dex stilled. It wasn’t so much Ash’s words, but the subtle desperation behind them. Ash put him down, and Dex turned, the look on Ash’s dirt-smudged face taking the fight out of Dex. He’d never seen the gruff agent looking so helpless, and despite clearly having his own fears, Ash met his gaze.

“He’s all the family I’ve got. Just let them do their job. It’s the best we can do for him.”

Dex swallowed hard and nodded. He had to get a hold of himself. It was only when Ash winced that Dex remembered the guy was slowly bleeding out. “Shit, Ash. Come on. We need to get you fixed up.”

“I’m fine,” Ash muttered, wiping the sweat from his beaded brow.

“Yeah, you look fine.” Dex refused to give in to his teammate’s stubbornness. He called over a nurse who took one look at Ash and ran off to get assistance. Ash continued to argue when Dex spotted his dad marching their way. Tony stopped beside them, his gaze dropping to Ash’s hand against his bleeding side before he barked out an order.

“Keeler, get your ass in there and get those stitches seen to.”

Ash looked like he wanted to argue but knew better. With a resigned sigh, he headed for the anxious looking nurses. As soon as Ash disappeared, Tony put a hand to Dex’s shoulder, concern in his deep brown eyes. It was too much for Dex right now.

“Hey. I’m going to take a walk. Call me if anything happens.”

Thankfully, his dad knew him well and gave him a nod. He removed his hand from Dex’s shoulder and let him go. Right now, Tony had to be his sergeant. Anything else would break Dex’s tremulous hold on his emotions. He walked off to gather his strength. He was going to need it.

Caught Up In GLITTER AND GRIT–Review and Giveaway

gg-blogtour copy
Hi there! Today I’m sharing in the blog tour for GLITTER AND GRIT, a contemporary cowboy romance from Jessie Evans. I’ve read two other books in this series, LEATHER AND LACE and SADDLES AND SIN, and loved them! GLITTER AND GRIT is no different in THAT regard. While all the books in this series feature recurring characters, to some extent, they are all standalone reads with complete stories.

A sexy small town romance from New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author Jessie Evans

This ride is going to last a lot longer than eight seconds…

Female professional bull rider, Reece Hearst, graduated from the school of hard knocks. With honors. Because life is like bull riding–when it sends you to the dirt, you do whatever it takes to get on your feet, even if you have to crawl. Like when officials stripped her of her rodeo queen title on the basis of vicious gossip years ago and not even her father would believe her side of the story. Reece could have stayed in the dust, wallowing. Instead, she fixed Lonesome Point in her rearview, joined the pro circuit, and never looked back. But now a serious injury threatens to end her career and she’s back in Lonesome Point, living next door to the family that once made her life a living hell.

After multiple tours of duty in Afghanistan and his father’s death, all Grayson Parker wants is to get his family’s cattle business back in the black and live a quiet life. But the return of Reece Hearst opens old wounds, throwing his ordered world into chaos. Grayson was serving overseas when Reece was a teenager and can’t believe the girl he once knew has grown into a heartbreaker as hardened as she is beautiful.

Grayson finds a kindred spirit in wounded Reece and soon longs to be the man to show her that there is life after pain and loss. But can two people as damaged as Reece and Grayson find their way to happily ever after? Or will the scars on their hearts forever keep them apart?

My Review:
Reese Hearst is a champion bull rider on the professional circuit, but 12 years ago she was stripped as a rodeo queen for “consorting” with a judge–if nearly being raped by her trusted mentor/coach is “consorting”… Even Reece’s dad didn’t believe her side, but then he was best friends with Neil Parker. Reece ran away and hasn’t been back to Lonesome Point TX in all that time, but now she’s recovering from a severe head injury incurred in her last rodeo and needs a quiet space in which to recuperate. Knowing her parents are off in Montana visiting her sister over Christmas, Reece holes up at the Hearst Ranch, but not before making the acquaintance of a hot mature cowboy.

Grayson Parker is trying not to lose his family ranch, now that his father’s dead and he’s sheltering his sister from her abusive husband. He’s not looking for a little recreation when he meets a spitfire at the Lonesome Point tavern. But, if she hadn’t passed clean out, he’d have made a happy woman of that one–until he learns who she is the next morning. Grayson was never a fan of his father–not especially once his dad took to dating all sorts of young women when Grayson’s mom died–so he up and left at age 18. Joined the Air Force for 20 years, and this homecoming is more bitter than sweet.

Grayson knows he should stay away from a woman his father favored, but he soon learns all Daddy’s dark secrets and finds the truth more than nauseating. He’s determined to see right come from it, and that means helping Reece, if she’ll let him. Thing is, she’s real stubborn. And acknowledges herself to be crazy. But, it turns out she’s attracted to him, and the feeling is more than mutual.

Still, Reece has no illusions about love–and has even less desire to stay in Lonesome Point. Plus, the head injury she suffered seems to be worsening. And the investigation behind Neil Parker’s suspicious death turns up even more dirt. Can she and Grayson find something more than a brief spark between them?

I really loved this book. Reece is a headstrong, impetuous character who actually acknowledges the mistakes she makes and seeks to fix them. She loves deep, which makes the hurts she suffers twice as agonizing. She did a whole lotta healing in this book, both physically and emotionally. Grayson is a treat for a male lead. Confident, not cocky, and steadfast. He does the right thing, because it’s the right thing, even when it means trouble for his own family. He puts his love out on his sleeve, and wears it proudly. Excellent smexytimes. And, a swoonworthy couple. Loved.

About Jessie Evans

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Jessie Evans, gave up a career as an international woman of mystery to write the sexy, contemporary Southern romances she loves to read.

She’s married to the man of her dreams, and together they’re raising a few adorable, mischievous children in a cottage in the jungle. She grew up in rural Arkansas, spending summers running wild, being chewed by chiggers, and now appreciates her home in a chigger-free part of the world even more.

When she’s not writing, Jessie enjoys playing her dulcimer (badly), sewing the worlds ugliest quilts to give to her friends, going for bike rides with her house full of boys, and drifting in and out on the waves, feeling thankful for sun, surf, and lovely people to share them with.

They Found Love RIDING IT OUT-Release Day Review Blitz

ridingitouttourbannerfinal

Hi there! Today I’m joining the release day celebration for RIDING IT OUT, a contemporary romance from Jennifer Foor.

RidingItOut_Mock44
About the book:
One woman
One man
An empty bed and breakfast
A summer storm
One night they’ll never forget – so they thought…

When my aunt passed away and left me her dilapidated bed and breakfast it was all so surreal. I hadn’t been back to that beach in many years, and the idea of revisiting left me sad and vulnerable.

I never planned on having guests. In fact, I just wanted to close up the place and sell it, so that I could move on with my life.

Then the storm happened.

Taken by surprise, I planned on waiting for it to pass. The house creaked and the power went out. That’s when someone knocked on the door.

He was a stranger, dripping wet, cold, and looking for shelter. I couldn’t turn him away…

What happened next between us opened new doors, changing everything I thought I wanted for myself. The only question is if I can trust him, or will his secrets destroy it all?

My Review:
Erica is youngish career-focused woman who has inherited her beloved aunt’s B & B on the Maryland coast. She plans to sell the sprawling house and return to her job in Baltimore, but must check out the property, first. Erica is isolated when a tropical storm blows in.

The house is battered and loses electric with the ferocity of the storm, and Erica is even more spooked to find a soaked stranger on the doorstep. Reluctantly allowing Reed a room, she’s lucky to learn he’s got the skills she needs–mainly carpentry, on account of freak storm damage. But, Reed’s also interested in more. Erica’s a bit of a “prude” and won’t have anything to do with Reed’s sexual challenges, well, until she does. In a single night she finds the companionship she’d always wanted, but put off, with a virtual stranger.

The morning’s light brings restored power and more passion—until they anger each other with questions of trust…and split. For a bit. The first part of this book is told from Erica’s POV which wasn’t terribly sympathetic. The language is verbose and stilted to my ear, and Erica seemed whimsical and erratic for a self-professed career-minded gal. I had a bit of trouble connecting with the story, as a result. I also could have done with a few more specifics in her backstory–for example, what was her job? How old was she, exactly? The story suffered, I thought, from too much telling. The smexytimes were decent.

Part Two of this series tells more story from Reed’s POV, and we learn that Reed isn’t the man he says he is. Literally. The big secret of his history is something he’d rather never confess, but the ill woman and unclaimed child on the doorstep of his and Erica’s B & B are not easy to explain away. We get some confused meanderings and soul-searching and as HEA as one can imagine for a couple in the midst of a huge transition. Less smexy in this book, and what there is is awkward. I had liked Reed a bunch in Book One, and a lot less in Book Two. Still, he’s okay. He’s trying to do the best he can repairing his mistakes in this world. Erica went up in my esteem the second go-round, so there’s that.

Great M/M Christmas Collection in ONE HOLIDAY EVER AFTER

Hi there! Today I’m sharing a contemporary holiday M/M romance collection featuring three excellent novellas. Each story is well-developed with delicious characters and no cliffhangers. It’s a fantastic read with lots of love, laughs and heat.

One Holiday Ever AfterHoliday Roommates by Tere Michaels features a blossoming romance between a snarky actor and an overwhelmed, over-extended production manager.

Nathaniel has reached rock bottom. Despite his long career in acting, and his BFA in Theater from Yale, he’s out of work. Well, he’s got a job but it sucks. He’s an elf in a live do-wap Christmas production marking the grand opening of the La Kiss department store in NYC. He’s one month from eviction on his apartment and in his own words:

Facing eviction from your beloved apartment–and possibly having to move in with your mother and take her back as your manager–was enough to convince a man to take any role. Any role. If his penis were bigger he would have considered porn.

Sean owes his dad a lot of money. He didn’t want to go into the soul-sucking venture capital firm his father owns, so he borrowed cash to start a theater production company. Having few contacts and fewer bookings, he’s grasping for anything–and that includes begging his former boyfriend for a favor–which is how he got the gig producing La Kiss’ Holiday Spectacular. Of course, if it flops, he’s never going to have the cash to pay back Daddy Dearest, and as it stands his margin is so thin he’s rented a room to sleep in from a family in Bensonhurst. The commute to Manhattan is sapping his fleeting resources and hours of sleep.

Then, the star of the show–Nate–offers him a bedroom in his apartment…

The rent money would be almost the same as the cost of cabs and food eaten on the go–not to mention the fact that this would add literal hours to the time Sean could spend sleeping. It was all so reasonable and helpful and…
“I’m gay,” Sean said suddenly, interrupting Nate’s description of the room he’d potentially be renting.
Nate stopped, nodded. “Right, I knew that.”
“And that isn’t a problem?”
“Why, are you concerned you’re doing it wrong?”
Sean sputtered out a laugh. “I’m actually very good at it.”
Nate rolled his eyes. “Funny enough, so am I. Is that a yes?”

It’s a super fun read where these boys find love, acceptance and “family” where they least expect it.

Holiday Sanctuary by Elle Brownlee has two mature men trapped in a Maine cabin in the midst of a Christmas blizzard.

Paul has a doctorate in ornithology and his research has saved birds species from endangerment. He’s a solitary man, loving the solitude of his remote cabin, but he’s not averse to helping a stranger in need. Especially a strapping bear of a man who turns up as the snow tumbles down. Chris is out on a nature-challenge when the blizzard begins. Seeking shelter, he’d never anticipated finding more than a warm hearth, but bunking in with Paul is soon hotter than he could have imagined.

The bond that develops between them is far stronger than they anticipate, and each man finds the black out conditions allows for a welcome intimacy, one they are loathe to abandon, even when the plows arrive. It’s a steamer, with copious feels and smoking smexytimes.

Holiday Homecoming by Elizah J Davis is an unexpected romance between a man and the house-sitter he finds irresistible.

After a decade of campaigning, shmoozing and networking, Gavin has given up his dream of having his TV show produced. He leaves LA, for good, and drives to his parents home in remote Bonabri, Idaho hoping to catch them before they depart to his sister’s home for Christmas. Unfortunately, they left early and Eric is the person who freaks out at Gavin’s 2am arrival.

“Looks like they are still home,” Gavin said when the house creaked overhead. He scratched under Whiskey’s chin and waited, expecting the light to come on with each creak of the stairs. When it didn’t, he crept into the living room, toward the staircase, intending to switch on the light and startled his dad, who’d likely been the one sent to investigate. He secured Whiskey in one arm and darted at the light switch, flipping it on and turning to the stairs to shout, “Aha!”

“Aahhh!” The guy on the stairs yelled and then slid down several steps until he landed on his ass with a thump.

“Shit!” Gavin jumped back, because the guy on the stairs was not his dad.

Eric isn’t sure if he’s going to stay in Idaho–his BFF from college, Katie–has pestered him to visit, since, well, forever. She want’s to open a cafe, with Eric’s help, but the advent of Gavin has him reconsidering his usefulness as a house sitter now that the homeowner’s son is home. Yet, the men hit it off, and their friendship advances to one with benefits. And then some…

“Gavin?”
“Yeah?”
“Are you asking me to be your boyfriend?” Eric’s eyes were twinkling, dammit, and Gavin realized he was trying not to laugh.
“Did I not actually say that part out loud?”
Eric shook his head.

It’s a super fun read with a heartwarming plot.
