Hi there! Today I’m sharing in the blog tour for GLITTER AND GRIT, a contemporary cowboy romance from Jessie Evans. I’ve read two other books in this series, LEATHER AND LACE and SADDLES AND SIN, and loved them! GLITTER AND GRIT is no different in THAT regard. While all the books in this series feature recurring characters, to some extent, they are all standalone reads with complete stories.

A sexy small town romance from New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author Jessie Evans

This ride is going to last a lot longer than eight seconds…

Female professional bull rider, Reece Hearst, graduated from the school of hard knocks. With honors. Because life is like bull riding–when it sends you to the dirt, you do whatever it takes to get on your feet, even if you have to crawl. Like when officials stripped her of her rodeo queen title on the basis of vicious gossip years ago and not even her father would believe her side of the story. Reece could have stayed in the dust, wallowing. Instead, she fixed Lonesome Point in her rearview, joined the pro circuit, and never looked back. But now a serious injury threatens to end her career and she’s back in Lonesome Point, living next door to the family that once made her life a living hell.

After multiple tours of duty in Afghanistan and his father’s death, all Grayson Parker wants is to get his family’s cattle business back in the black and live a quiet life. But the return of Reece Hearst opens old wounds, throwing his ordered world into chaos. Grayson was serving overseas when Reece was a teenager and can’t believe the girl he once knew has grown into a heartbreaker as hardened as she is beautiful.

Grayson finds a kindred spirit in wounded Reece and soon longs to be the man to show her that there is life after pain and loss. But can two people as damaged as Reece and Grayson find their way to happily ever after? Or will the scars on their hearts forever keep them apart?

My Review:
Reese Hearst is a champion bull rider on the professional circuit, but 12 years ago she was stripped as a rodeo queen for “consorting” with a judge–if nearly being raped by her trusted mentor/coach is “consorting”… Even Reece’s dad didn’t believe her side, but then he was best friends with Neil Parker. Reece ran away and hasn’t been back to Lonesome Point TX in all that time, but now she’s recovering from a severe head injury incurred in her last rodeo and needs a quiet space in which to recuperate. Knowing her parents are off in Montana visiting her sister over Christmas, Reece holes up at the Hearst Ranch, but not before making the acquaintance of a hot mature cowboy.

Grayson Parker is trying not to lose his family ranch, now that his father’s dead and he’s sheltering his sister from her abusive husband. He’s not looking for a little recreation when he meets a spitfire at the Lonesome Point tavern. But, if she hadn’t passed clean out, he’d have made a happy woman of that one–until he learns who she is the next morning. Grayson was never a fan of his father–not especially once his dad took to dating all sorts of young women when Grayson’s mom died–so he up and left at age 18. Joined the Air Force for 20 years, and this homecoming is more bitter than sweet.

Grayson knows he should stay away from a woman his father favored, but he soon learns all Daddy’s dark secrets and finds the truth more than nauseating. He’s determined to see right come from it, and that means helping Reece, if she’ll let him. Thing is, she’s real stubborn. And acknowledges herself to be crazy. But, it turns out she’s attracted to him, and the feeling is more than mutual.

Still, Reece has no illusions about love–and has even less desire to stay in Lonesome Point. Plus, the head injury she suffered seems to be worsening. And the investigation behind Neil Parker’s suspicious death turns up even more dirt. Can she and Grayson find something more than a brief spark between them?

I really loved this book. Reece is a headstrong, impetuous character who actually acknowledges the mistakes she makes and seeks to fix them. She loves deep, which makes the hurts she suffers twice as agonizing. She did a whole lotta healing in this book, both physically and emotionally. Grayson is a treat for a male lead. Confident, not cocky, and steadfast. He does the right thing, because it’s the right thing, even when it means trouble for his own family. He puts his love out on his sleeve, and wears it proudly. Excellent smexytimes. And, a swoonworthy couple. Loved.

About Jessie Evans

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Jessie Evans, gave up a career as an international woman of mystery to write the sexy, contemporary Southern romances she loves to read.

She’s married to the man of her dreams, and together they’re raising a few adorable, mischievous children in a cottage in the jungle. She grew up in rural Arkansas, spending summers running wild, being chewed by chiggers, and now appreciates her home in a chigger-free part of the world even more.

When she’s not writing, Jessie enjoys playing her dulcimer (badly), sewing the worlds ugliest quilts to give to her friends, going for bike rides with her house full of boys, and drifting in and out on the waves, feeling thankful for sun, surf, and lovely people to share them with.

Even sweet cowboys have a sinful side…

Robert Lawson—Bubba to his friends—is six feet, four inches of tall, dark, and handsome cowboy, with a panty-melting voice and a face made to launch a country music career. But when his family’s ranch hands go down with the flu, Robert cancels his high-profile auditions in Austin, and returns home to Lonesome Point to help out. Fortune and fame are all well and good, but family and friends come first. Besides, he’s ready to enjoy some off-the-clock time with his manager, a woman who has him dying to show her what a good man can do to a woman when he’s given permission to be bad.

Marisol Medina has been looking for her golden ticket since she became a country music manager. A scandal with one of her clients nearly destroyed her, but now she’s close to launching an artist who will make her career. Robert Lawson has it all—talent, charisma, and a naughty side that flicks all of Marisol’s kinkier switches. But Robert is off limits. She refuses to mix business and pleasure, even if it will be hell resisting temptation while spending a week at the Lawson family ranch, doing her best to convince Robert to ditch the saddle and embrace his future as a star.

But as Marisol and Robert grow closer and the passion between them ignites, Marisol must decide if fear is stronger than love, or if a chance at forever is worth breaking all her rules.

My Review:
This is the second book in the Lonesome Point series, and I liked it better than the first.

Robert “Bubba” Lawson is reaching out for his dream. He’s always been a fave on the karaoke scene, but now he’s singing for real–booking gigs and everything. He’s keeping this on the super down-low because his mother is totally against performing, and especially against her sons growing up and moving away. Both his older brothers have built homes on their family ranch, but Bubba wants wings to fly. Oh, and he also wants his manager, Marisol.

Marisol got burned, professionally and emotionally, by a client/lover two years ago. Shunned by her family and plagued by internet video evidence of her folly, she’s sworn off men. Even Robert. Even panty-melting, heartstring-pulling, uber-lucious, destined-to-be-a-star Robert. Especially Robert, because he’s the real deal, both professionally and emotionally, and that scares the stuffing out of her pillows.

Okay. There are no surprises that Robert and Marisol do hit it. It’s more about how and when, and how they deal with it after. Marisol is loathe to give up any control in her regimented life, but she’s so attracted to the sensitive, hard-working, emotionally-available man who wants nothing more than to love and please her. Robert woos with the best of them: taking Marisol to his ranch to help with bull castrating. Yep, this cowboy is a real cowboy, fo sho.

I actually adored the ranching parts of this book. It felt fun and authentic. Marisol has more than a few tricks in her arsenal, and from the outset I felt compelled to cheer them on, knowing they would be each other’s best ally.

I got Marisol’s anguish–it’s brutal to have personal acts shared on porn websites. It’s rotten to be disowned by family. It’s empowering to isolate and cut away the hurting bits, but it’s exhilarating to be loved again, in spite of past mistakes. I so swooned for Robert. He didn’t bat an eyelash over Marisol’s sordid history. He loved her up, and down, and any which way he could get her. The smexytimes were G-O-O-D.

Bubba and Marisol made a great match and a great team, and this book is seriously just such a huge pile of beach-ready sunshine that I’m sure I’ll read it again. The Lonesome Point series is turning my head on cowboy romance. Or, maybe that was Bubba.

He Falls for LEATHER AND LACE–A Review

Hi there! Today’s book is a contemporary romance from Jessie Evans. LEATHER AND LACE is a fun Texas romance, without all the cowboy stuff…(unless you like the cowboy stuff in which case, it’s not VERY cowboy-ie, but there’s a sorta cowboy in it…)

Leather and Lace
About the book:
Cowboy bikers, fireworks, and romance, oh my…

Wild girl, Mia Sherman, has a secret—she isn’t as fearless as she pretends. Descended from Lonesome Point, Texas’s founding family, Mia grew up hearing tales of an old Irish curse that had followed the Shermans to America. At age twenty-four, Mia is still terrified of the stories, because they aren’t stories. They are a warning about what will happen if Mia allows love and romance into her life. The curse struck Mia’s grandmother and her great-great-whatever grandmother, and Mia knows she could be next. The first-born daughter of every generation is cursed to lose her husband on her wedding night, which is one of the many reasons Mia has sworn off relationships.

Until the fateful day Sawyer Kane rides his Harley into her life …

Rancher turned restoration expert, Sawyer Kane, can’t believe his luck when the feisty owner of the lingerie shop next to his hotel turns out to be the curator of his latest project, a ghost town he’s been sent to restore. He’s looking forward to long, hot days talking history, and hotter nights with Mia, but the redhead with the killer smile seems determined to keep him at a friendly distance. But when a dangerous man from Mia’s past arrives in town, Sawyer finds himself drawn into her inner circle, and into the legend of Lonesome Point itself.

Can true love conquer all, even a centuries-old curse? Mia and Sawyer may be the first couple to find out.

My Review:
Mia is a strong, educated businesswoman with a horrible ex—-so horrible he’s in jail. Paul haunts Mia’s nightmares, but he’s back in LA and she’s in Lonesome Point, Texas living near her family and friends. Mia’s a bit of a prankster, and she topples into Sawyer mid-prank, very early one Saturday morning. Like 2:30am, after having far too many shots of whiskey.

Sawyer isn’t looking for romance in Lonesome Point. He’s there to bid on the restoration of the nearby ghost town, but he’s more than happy to oblige the rambunctious redhead who stole his breath, okay knocked him breathless, in the street. Yeah, that Mia’s got spirit. Or, was filled with spirit… In either case, he’s intrigued enough to pursue her.

Mia turns Sawyer away for two reasons: she’s still scared of intimacy after Paul’s abusive ways, and she’s sure the firstborn women of her family are cursed to lose their husbands on their wedding night. It seems a crazy curse, but Mia’s granny swears by it. She should know–her hubby died that way, too.

It’s a fun, but not long, pursuit. All of Mia’s friends encourage her to leap–and Sawyer assures her everything will be casual. That’s before he gets her between the sheets however. Then it’s all Floodgates of the Past Confession Central and they spend a whole lotta time confiding in each other–excepting about Paul, he’s a taboo topic. Well, he’s taboo until he breaks parole.

Can Mia survive Paul’s love? Can she give her heart to Sawyer, believing a curse might steal him away when they should be at their happiest?

It’s a fun read with some interesting twists. I rather knew where the story was headed, but that’s likely equal parts good foreshadowing and attentive audience. The V-card issue was, perhaps, unnecessary. Lots of talk of unwedded parenthood, with the culture-clash in tiny Lonesome Point teetering on the disapproving side. For me, it seemed “meh.” I have no qualms about unwed parents. I do have trouble with deadbeat fathers–and this story seemed a bit littered with them.

I’m glad Mia found the courage to love. I’m not glad that she kicked Sawyer aside out of fear. Or that she takes too much on herself. Made her seem a touch, um, naive, for me. That said, this is breezy read with a cool setting, fun characters and well-written smexytimes. I enjoyed it.

Interested? You can find LEATHER AND LACE on Goodreads, Amazon and Barnes & Noble. I received a review copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.
