Out Today MILLION BALLER BABY–A Review

million-baller-baby-bannerHi there! I’m excited to share a release day review for a new contemporary romance from Rie Warren. I first fell for her Southern charmers in STONE AT YOUR SERVICE, but MILLION BALLER BABY is all about the pigskin, and making amends for secrets, too!

million-baller-baby-rie-warren-ebook-finalAbout the book:
She’s NFL royalty. He’s the star quarterback of a tanking team. When she takes ownership, balls will roll . . . and the truth will out.
Rafe Macintyre—the rocket-armed Carolina Crush quarterback—has nothing to lose and everything to prove. All because of one woman . . . Miss Peyton Fox. When the tough-as-nails chick takes over as team owner, Rafe is ready to turn the epic-fail season into a Super Bowl championship. But the winning has to start with Peyton’s love.

No stranger to playas on and off the field, Peyton Fox is born and bred NFL royalty. Been there, done him, and called the plays even before she took up the Carolina Crush crown. She has zero time for a love life and even less time for games unless they happen between the endzones. Unfortunately, Rafe Macintyre has one hell of an arm, and he’s full of hot southern charm. He’s not too bad to drool over either, but it’s been five years since she tangled with him—a mistake she doesn’t plan on repeating.

The consequences of one night of rebellion will last a lifetime. It’s all fun and games until someone gets knocked up.

My Review:
Rafe Macintyre is a NFL quarterback on a team falling from grace. Their owner died unexpectedly a month ago, and team morale wasn’t good before that tragedy. He’s not enthused when the team’s new owner, Peyton Fox-only heir of their deceased boss–steps in to whip this team into shape. Not that he can’t respect a woman; he and Payton shared one night of carnal bliss the night Rafe was drafted to her team–and he had to stay away to keep his job, not because he didn’t want her.

Peyton Fox wants to rebuild her father’s legacy. Now. She’d been working for another team to stay far away from Rafe and all his shenanigans, but her only current choices are to save the Carolina Crush, or sell them. To save them, she needs to work with Rafe–even if it means putting her heart, and the emotoinal well-being of her “fatherless” son at risk. See, Call has a daddy, he’s just never met him in person. And Payton’s not quite sure how to bridge that gap with Rafe. She’d been infatuated by him and infuriated that Rafe walked away without as second glance.

So, I think people who like sports romance, and sexy-sexy books will find this one right in their wheelhouse. The pace is rapid with the bulk of the story occurring in preseason training, with Peyton being an extremely ‘hands-on’ owner. Rafe is a good guy with strong family values, and he’s determined to do things right with Payton this second time around. Add in his discovery of Cal, and he’s downright giddy to be a dad, even if he’s missed a whole lot. Payton’s reticent to reveal her big secret, but she does the deed eventually. This puts their rekindled romance on the backfield for a bit, but these folks really like being in each other’s spaces so they work it out with little blood, sweat or tears. The story also gets at the rebuilding of the football team, so expect a good bit of posturing and trash-talk. It look like this series is set up for the ball players to find their soul mate, so expect more sexy first-downs in the near future.

Finding Love IN THE RING–Release Day Review

in-the-ring-fb-bannerHi there! Today I’m sharing a review for a brand new M/M sports romance from Rie Warren. I’ve really liked her M/F romance, including Carolina Bad Boys STONE, LOVE, STEELE and CHROME, so I was excited to check out this new series. IN THE RING features a closeted gay boxer and the sexy trainer he falls for.

in-the-ringAbout the book:
The biggest fight of his life isn’t . . . In the Ring.
The bright lights. The roaring crowd. The chance at a championship belt. The not-so-little secret Liam Shaughnessy—the Bonny Bruiser—is fighting to keep tucked far away.

Liam got the pussy pounded out of him on the mean streets of Cin-city—the other Sin City. The oldest in a Catholic clan where his da never pulled any punches, he went from geek boy to the golden boy of the boxing world care of his fists. Liam’s on the fast track to having it all . . . all except the one man he wants.

Michael Fairweather makes pretending to be hetero goddamn difficult for Liam. The man is blond and beautiful and just so happens to be Liam’s trainer. With a penchant for doing shirtless yoga, giving midnight massages to loosen Liam’s muscles, and sometimes even taking it out in the ring with him. To say Liam has porn-style fantasies about Michael is an understatement.

Michael’s out and proud. Liam’s only proud of what he can do in the ring. He can’t risk his career, least of all for someone unavailable. Michael has a lover. Liam has the lies he lives every day. And when his money-grubbing manager gets involved as the title win approaches, Liam doesn’t know what hit him.

Fight to win. Fight with honor. It won’t be easy, but that’s okay. Nothing worth fighting for ever is.

My Review:
Liam Shaughnessy survived an abusive childhood and the mean streets of Cincinnati. He’s fought and trained to rise out of the underground bareknuckle boxing circuit into the heavyweight boxing matches. Having money means he can take care of his mother and three younger siblings. It also means he can afford luxuries like his own training staff and management. It doesn’t mean he can afford to come out, however.

Michael Fairweather has fought his way back from a debilitating injury in soccer to become a take-no-nonsense boxing trainer to Liam, on his path to the championship belt. He’s also out-and-proud, and exactly the man Liam would date, if he could date a man, that is. Also, Mikey has a long-distance relationship with his high school sweetheart, Wade, and that’s pretty complicated.

When Mikey learns that Liam’s not straight, that Liam’s been pining for Michael for more than a year now, Michael’s in a bad position. And Liam’s heart is set to be smashed.

This book moves a little fast for me, with periods of prose (especially at the beginning) that felt more like I was being told the story, than that I was engaged in the story. So, it wasn’t until maybe halfway through that I got invested. Liam’s a decent guy in a tough spot. He wants to win the heavyweight championship so he can financially support his family, though this was a bit of a side plot, really, and he wants to have a loving relationship with Michael. Michael has a lot of passive-aggressive nonsense going on, with odd fits of jealousy whenever Liam’s posed with women. This didn’t make much sense, considering Michael has a man, and fully believed Liam was straight. I did understand, later, when they were together, how this would rankle, but the early jealousy was mystifying, for me. I had trouble bonding with these characters, because they didn’t read as fleshed-out as I’d like, and I got frustrated with Liam’s constant obeisance to his homophobic manager. Liam didn’t seem willing to stand up for himself, ever, and that was troubling for a man who’s all about power and strength in the ring. Further, Michael seems trifling and spoiled, with little concern but his own emotional well-being. As a side issue, the time-frame of the boxing and boxing-related activities seemed too compressed, something the sports fan in me railed against strongly. It made for circumstances that taxed my ability to suspend disbelief, though I doubt many readers follow boxing enough for it to raise concerns for them.

In all, there’s some good feels, including desire, elation, joy of having love returned and some more heartbreaking moments, too. Expect sexytimes, big growth of a geek-turned-street-fighter-turned-boxer and an HEA.

Interested? You can find IN THE RING on Goodreads and Amazon. It’s currently $.99 for a limited time.

His Heart is CHROME, Forged In Steele–A Review

Hi there! Today I’m sharing a review for Rie Warren’s latest release in the Carolina Bad Boys series, CHROME: WITH A HEART FORGED IN STEELE. You all know how much I’ve enjoyed bad boys STONE, LOVE and STEELE, and Boomer is a lovable giant hooked on a feisty dirt-biking mechanic with a sordid past.

Chrome: With a Heart Forged in Steele (Carolina Bad Boys #4)About the book:
Boomer Steele is big. He’s bad. He’s the Retribution MC pres. He’s been dealt the worst hand imaginable and bears the scars inside and out. Not that anyone knows it. He’s watched his younger brother and sister hook up and hitch up with the loves of their lives, and now he’s the last Steele standing alone. Maybe he should keep it that way.

Then one feisty honey makes him feel, gets in his grill, pisses him off.

She goes by the name of Rayce. And that’s exactly what she does on her motocross bike when she’s not busy getting her hands dirty with her fellow grease monkeys as the only female mechanic at Stone’s Garage. She’s into fixing bikes, racing hers, and making Boomer’s life a living hell just for the fun of it. Oh, and she hates being treated like a girl.

Sparks flying? That’s an understatement where these two are concerned. Yet when Rayce needs a place to live, and Boomer offers her a room in his house, their unquenchable attraction wins out over antagonism. Sometimes. Rayce’s crappy upbringing makes her think love is for stupid fools asking for heartbreak. She’s not willing to go there for any man. Not even Boomer Steele.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall.
Note to readers: this book addresses the issue of domestic abuse.

How about a little taste?

Liked it so much I was considering banging her against the bathroom door. “Yeah.” I rubbed a hand over my mouth. “You could say that.”

Then she did something entirely feminine, a side of her I’d never truly seen before, and performed a little twirl that lifted the skirt up her firm thighs before she stopped in front of me, her face glowing.

I started sweating, right then and there. “Jesus. You’re gonna give me a heart attack.”

“Serves you right, old man.”

“I wanna be your old man.” Growling, I scooped her into my arms. “Been missing you.”

I wouldn’t say I was at an impasse with Rayce, but I’d hardly seen her in several weeks. That was going to end tonight, after I watched Hunter either crash and burn or end up a happily married man.

My lips slid up the curve of Rayce’s neck, and her skin tasted like hot womanly sweetness. I licked the shell of her ear, ghosted to the corner of her mouth, and touched the point of my tongue against the seam of her lips.

She parted them with a gasp.

I looked down at her with heavy eyelids, our mouths separated by just a breath of space. “Been dreaming about kissing you. Feeling your lips on mine.”

“Why don’t you?” she asked, all throaty and sultry.

“You don’t want it enough yet.” I backed away from her.

My Review:
Boomer has crushed on Rayce for a good long time. He’s seen his sister and brother settle down with lovers and he’s lonely in his big empty home. Boomer witnessed the fear in Rayce’s eyes and her embarrassment over the ramshackle trailer she shares with her father. A father who’s drunk more nights than not, and also has a right nasty mouth on him.

Rayce seems to want to be with Boomer, but she’s reluctant to let any one help her out. She works hard at Stone’s garage and is fearless on the racetrack, so why is she holding back against his sure love? When Rayce pulls a disappearing act, Boomer goes to find her–and finds his worst fears confirmed. It’s not a pretty home life, that’s for sure. So Boomer does what he does best, takes care of Rayce. Moves her into his empty home and treats her with care and respect. They’re roommates, without the sexy benefits. That’s what Rayce needs, to prove that she and Boomer can co-exist and she isn’t bartering her body for a place to live. Truth is, that scenario has happened before and it might happen again, if Rayce isn’t careful. Her filthy “father” has a whole new set of humiliations in store for Rayce, and Boomer’s the muscle that lifts her out of the darkness and the rock she needs to stand on.

I was glad to see Boomer get his happy ending. He’s such a caretaker, and deserves to have a partner who loves him with her whole heart. Rayce is a good woman in a bad situation, used and abused by the one man she believed should love her. It’s not as gory as some of the Retribution stories, or even Brodie STEELE’s book, but it does involve verbal, emotional, and even physical abuse of a woman–though some of this is off the page. It’s clear that Rayce’s father has no love for her, and the reason was plain to me early on. That said, I liked how this one was all tied up. It’s not a sunshine and roses upbeat story, but there’s a lot of love and a definite HEA. Also, it’s a dirty dirty read when the sexytimes get going.

Interested? You can find CHROME: WITH A HEART FORGED IN STEELE on Goodreads and Amazon. It’s free on Kindle Unlimited and a $.99 special for release day.

Meeting COLETRANE Head On–A Review

Hi there! Today I’m sharing my review for the final book in Rie Warren’s Bad Boys of Retribution series. As you know I’ve followed the other three stories with glee! HUNTER, BO, and KINKAID were all yummy biker guys finding solid, sexy women, and COLETRANE is no exception. While this is a part of the series, it can be read as a standalone.

Coletrane (Bad Boys of Retribution MC #4)My Review:

Coletrane is a new member of the Retribution MC. He’s a level-headed college grad, working as a tattoo artist, and trying to keep his past at bay.

Then he meets Sinclair Chatham, sexy socialite he should steer quite clear of–but he can’t and it’s bringing him a world o’ hurt.

Sin, as he calls her, is a good girl who likes it bad. She’s headstrong and heartstrong and sure she can tame Cole’s inner beast, but Cole’s brand of lovin’–BDSM of a fashion–is as intoxicating as his sultry voice.

Cole’s past isn’t pretty. He ran around with the wrong folks, and had little direction from his mom who was always looking for the next big take. He barely survived when his sister OD’ed. His mom had a mental breakdown, and he’s been shouldering a lot of blame over the past several years. Between Cole and Sin the heat is intense. He’s falling hard and fast for this strong woman, but her dad isn’t best pleased–and his former friends see Sin as a gravy train they’d like to skim.

As with all the other Retribution books, we get the men of Retribution MC coming together for a tense showdown, the hero being a real hero, and so much sexytimes it’s a guaranteed HEA. I liked how Cole took Hunter’s advice and put his degree to real use, and made amends over his past at the same time. It was also cool that everything didn’t work out perfectly for Cole, keeping it real for us readers. Sin is the sexiest and most forward of all the gals bound to Retribution men, so far. Her daring was fun to experience.

Interested? You can find COLETRANE on Goodreads and Amazon.

Intense Love, Serious Stakes in BO–A Review

Hi there! Today I’m sharing my review for BO, the third Retribution MC novella from Rie Warren. I’ve been keeping up with her Carolina Bad Boys series with STONE, LOVE and STEELE, and her bikers: HUNTER and KINKAID, but BO is different. He’s a recent vet, suffering PTSD, with a few friends who do him more than one solid.

imageMy Review:
This is the third book in the Retribution MC series but can be read as a standalone.

Bo is a recent veteran returned stateside following the drawdown of troops in the Middle East. His last mission went bad, resulting in capture, torture and death of his many in his unit. He suffers PTSD and nightmares as a result. His buddy in the Retribution MC, Hunter, gets him signed up for counseling with the sultry Dr. Veronica Hartley. (Pardon me while I love that name…)

Unfortunately for Bo, V is the sexiest woman he’s seen in a long, long time. How can he confess his horrors while sporting a hard-on? Clearly the only thing to do is avoid his sessions, which only draws Dr. Hartley to seek Bo in his personal training studio…. The attraction is fast and fierce, but Veronica backs off, referring Bo to a colleague. Once she feels she’s given him some time to heal, she’s back–and this time with out the conflict-of-interest. Veronica still counsels Bo, but as a friend and lover, helping him to move past his survivor’s guilt and make contact with his family.

But V has a big secret of her own, one revealed in her love of motorrcycles, her giant tattoo and her handiness with a blade. If Bo wants to spend his life loving the woman who helped him heal, he’s gonna have to get her out of a very dangerous situation.

I liked Bo. He’s a stand-up guy with a desire to work past his tragic past. V is a good match, never letting Bo get too much of the upper hand. Her lack of history and family is mystifying–at first. Both Bo and V are lonely, and find solace with each other, which is nice. I wasn’t expecting the grisly turn things took, however. It was fun to see all the Retribution guys out on rescue detail, and for Bo to get support from his few surviving Marine pals. If you are expecting a sweet story, this isn’t it–but it does have a lot of intensity and two characters that you’ll be rooting for from the first page.

Interested? You can find BO on Goodreads and Amazon. The final book in this series, COLETRANE, drops next month. Pre-order it here.

Stripped Bare: KINKAID-A Review

Hi there! Today I’m wishing a Happy Book Birthday to KINKAID, an erotic romance from Rie Warren. This is the second book in her Retribution MC series, though it can be read on it’s own. I’ve been faithfully following her Carolina Bad Boys series of books featuring tough, sexy, lovable men: STONE, LOVE and STEELE, and the first MC spin-off HUNTER was sexy and swoony, but KINKAID is ready for his spotlight…

Kinkaid (Bad Boys of Retribution MC, #2)My Review:
Kinkaid Ryder is a young, fit, male stripper. He is loud and proud on the stage earning money to pay down his grandpa’s medical debts, but keeps that part of himself secret from his childhood best friends, Sadie. Oh, and also from the guys at Retribution, because they wouldn’t accept a stripper into their club, and he really wants to join.

See, Kinky Kaid, as he’s known on the stage, doesn’t have a lot of people in his life. His dad left before he was born, and his mom died when he was a toddler, leaving him to his Grandpa’s care–and now that Gramps is sick, Kinkaid is gonna make sure his life is comfortable. Then, Sadie spots Kinkaid while out at a bachelorette party. and Kinkaid is just as stunned by the dressed-up version of his overall’s wearing artistic tomboy BFF. The attraction is magnetic, but Sadie’s so furious she cuts Kinkaid off for a bit. He’s frustrated, and angry. And can’t believe that she’s harbored a secret crush on him for years. Finding him bare-ass naked, writhing for a lust-crazed crowd is too much for her to take.

While the make-up is tender, Kinkaid’s job is one mountain on the path they can’t seem to climb. I really enjoyed this quick read. Kinkaid is a 21 y/o, dumb, sexy dude who wants to eat his cake and have it, too. While he can’t bear to have men ogle a clothed Sadie, he sees nothing wrong with giving hundred-dollar lap dances. I had to shake my head at his naivete. Still, he’s earnest and compassionate and he learns his lessons right before the end comes. There’s a lot of heart here and the soulful discussions Kinkaid shares with his ailing gramps are really something special. I’ve read lots of stories with a young gal stripping to support her family or education, so it was fun to get the flipside. It’s a cool literary complement for fans who clamor to catch Magic Mike XXL this summer. Expect graphic sex, crude language, and a cocky stripper who learns to bare his heart and cover his body.

Interested? You can find KINKAID on Goodreads and it’s surrently $.99 on Amazon.
