Taking Him in Hand: BEFORE YOU BREAK–Review and Giveaway!

Hi there! Today I’m sharing a review and giveaway for a newly released M/M BDSM romance from the writing team of KC Wells and Parker Williams. BEFORE YOU BREAK kicks off a new Secrets series connected by London’s newest kink club. Expect some old friends from the Collars & Cuffs series to join us, but this story is really a friends-to-lovers romance between new characters, mates on the Specialist Firearms Unit police brigade.

Catch my review below and be sure to enter the giveaway for a $25 Amazon GC!
About the book:
Six years ago Ellis walked into his first briefing as the newest member of London’s Specialist Firearms unit. He was partnered with Wayne and they became fast friends. When Wayne begins to notice changes—Ellis’s erratic temper, the effects of sleep deprivation—he knows he has to act before Ellis reaches his breaking point. He invites Ellis to the opening of the new BDSM club, Secrets, where Wayne has a membership. His purpose? He wants Ellis to glimpse the lifestyle before Wayne approaches him with a proposition. He wants to take Ellis in hand, to control his life because he wants his friend back, and he figures this is the only way to do it.

There are a few issues, however. Ellis is straight. Stubborn. And sexy. Wayne knows he has to put his own feelings aside to be what Ellis needs. What surprises the hell out of him is finding out what Ellis actually requires.

My Review:
Ellis Mann had a solid member of the Specialist Firearms Unit in London’s police force for the first five years of his tenure, but the past year has been tainted by impatience, aggressive behavior and downright dangerous risks. His partner on the force and best mate, Wayne Dwyer, has noticed Ellis’ downward spiral, and knows that Ellis is going to get himself fired, or worse killed, if he doesn’t get his act together. Wayne has been out and proud his whole career, his whole life, and their workmates all know and don’t care–but Wayne’s had a special affection for Ellis since he came on the force.

He’s damned attracted, and that’s rough because he knows Ellis is straight. The Dom in Wayne knows he could fix Ellis’ struggles, if only he could reach him…

An opportunity arises when Ellis finds out that Wayne is into kink and planning to attend the opening of Secrets, a new gay BDSM club. Ellis finagles an invite, and they attend. It’s eye-opening in many ways, and gives Ellis a peek into a world he’d shunned out of fear of his family’s reaction; Ellis doesn’t like women sexually. And, though he’s attracted to men, he’s never once acted on those urges. Not even with Wayne, who is the only person Ellis feels safe with–who Ellis knows would care for him over anyone else.

Learning that Wayne wants to help him overcome his family’s inconsiderate treatment and demands, as well as his work struggles by taking him as a sub, however, now that’s a walk too long for Ellis. He’s not a weak man! But Wayne’s offer is tantalizing and becomes one of few outlets available to help right his ship after an incident leaves Ellis suspended.

This is a sweet and tender BDSM romance that has a bit of a slow burn. It’s a really long novel, so we get a clear sense of these guys, their secrets and passions, before they get sexually physical. Initially, Wayne only intends to exert his emotional control over Ellis, but when Ellis reveals that he’s gay–and wants Wayne as a true partner–they do not waste time getting it on, and on.

There are speed bumps, however, as Ellis has real troubles with his dysfunctional family. He has zero boundaries with them, and that has led to his professional and personal issues. Wayne steps in strongly, though, and vows to be at Ellis’ side each step of his journey toward a healthier life–together. I loved getting to know Jarod and Eli (DOM OF AGES) and seeing them find such love and enjoyment in their new club, Secrets. Jarod is a great sounding board for Ellis, and their friendship is a lovely addition. For readers who enjoy real relationship-building and considerate BDSM, I think BEFORE YOU BREAK would be a book to not miss.

About the authors:
About KC Wells…
Born and raised in the north-west of England, K.C. Wells always loved writing. Words were important. Full stop. However, when childhood gave way to adulthood, the writing ceased, as life got in the way. K.C. discovered erotic fiction in 2009, when the purchase of a ménage storyline led to the startling discovery that reading about men in love was damn hot. In 2012, arriving at a really low point in life led to the desperate need to do something creative. An even bigger discovery waited in the wings—writing about men in love was even hotter….

K.C. now writes full-time and is loving every minute of her new career. The laptop still has no idea of what hit it… it only knows that it wants a rest, please. And it now has to get used to the idea that where K.C goes, it goes.

And as for those men in love that she writes about? The list of stories just waiting to be written is getting longer… and longer….

About Parker Williams:
Happily Ever After Comes With A Price Tag. Parker Williams began to write as a teen, but never showed his work to anyone. As he grew older, he drifted away from writing, but his love of the written word moved him to reading. A chance encounter with an author changed the course of his life as she encouraged him to never give up on a dream. With the help of some amazing friends, he rediscovered the joy of writing, thanks to a community of writers who have become his family. Parker firmly believes in love, but is also of the opinion that anything worth having requires work and sacrifice (plus a little hurt and angst, too). The course of love is never a smooth one, and Happily Ever After always has a price tag.

Where We Stand: ENDINGS & BEGINNINGS–Excerpt & Kindle Giveaway!

E&B-BannerHi there! Today I’m sharing an exclusive excerpt and giveaway in support of a contemporary BDSM M/M romance from KC Wells and Parker Williams. ENDINGS AND BEGINNINGS is the eighth–and final–book in the Collars and Cuffs series, and should be read in order.

EndingsandBeginningsFSAbout the book:

In all his relationships, Darren Fielding never found the level of intimacy he witnessed between Thomas Williams and his sub, Peter, the day of Peter’s “rebirth.” Not only that, he never realized such intimacy was possible. For two years, Thomas’s business card has been burning a hole in his wallet. When Darren’s lover moves on, maybe it’s finally time to see where that card takes him.

Collars & Cuffs’s new barman, JJ Taylor, is really conflicted right now. He went to the club with a very specific purpose, already convinced of what he’d find there. Except it’s not what he expected at all. He certainly didn’t anticipate finding himself drawn to the new wannabe Dom. Nor could he have guessed the direction that attraction would lead him.

Old love, new love, vows, pain, rage, moving in, moving on…. The members of Collars & Cuffs face an event that touches some of them deeply, but it will only reinforce what they already know: together they are stronger, and some bonds cannot be broken.

A tender tidbit!

The alarm clock would be going off in ten minutes, but I hadn’t been asleep for the last half-hour. I lay there, tousling Peter’s hair while he slept. The weight he carried on his slender shoulders always seemed to disappear when we had a vigorous night of lovemaking, followed by sleep. I loved waking up a few minutes early so I could count my blessings.

Six minutes until the clock would be going off. I sigh. I wish I could stop time right now, so that we could both simply lay here and be together. It’s a foolish dream, I know, but I’m not willing to give it up. Until the day that Peter walked into my life, I never realized what I had been missing. His presence brought a warmth on the chilliest of nights, and made me want to soak it all in.

Five minutes. I know that Peter worries about me dying before he does. He fears being alone almost as much as I do. But I’ve taken steps to ensure he’s taken care of. Hell, even Jarod has put something aside so Peter won’t have to worry if something happens to me. Or when.

Four minutes. What would I do without Peter? That bastard, Curtis Rogers, almost took him away from me. I could have lost my boy without ever telling him I love him. I take the time to do that every day now. Peter has to know that he’s a good, kind soul, and that he means everything to me. How I ever thought I could live without him is beyond me. Having him now makes me realize how empty my life had been.

Three minutes. He’s stirring. He must know that it’s close to the time we would both be starting our day. He’ll make breakfast while I shower, then he’ll start on his chores. I’ve never seen him happier than when he gets to work in the library. I order more books now than I ever have, just because it pleases him. I might be his Dom, but that doesn’t mean I can’t spoil my boy. Funny how the books I used to order were stodgy old research books, but now I order more mysteries, thrillers, and even some romance books that I know Peter likes.

Two minutes. His eyes are fluttering. Is he dreaming? I hope it’s a pleasant one. He’s had far too many nightmares for someone so young. If I could go back and change things so that Peter never met Curtis, I would do it without hesitation. Even though it would cost me the chance to be with him, I’d do it. Whatever it took to make Peter happy.

One minute. Oh, how I wish I had more time to watch him sleep. His dream must be a pleasant one, because he’s murmuring. Whispering Sir over and over. I see the covers tent, and hope that he’s reliving our passion from last evening, when he cried out for me, clung to me as he achieved his orgasm. God, that’s the most beautiful sight.

The alarm goes off, and Peter reaches over to turn it off. He cuddles against me, and smiles. “Good morning, Sir.”

My heart fills, knowing this incredible man is all mine. I kiss his head. “It is. The best.”

Oh, wow. Such a sweet scene!

Being His FIRST–Review and Giveaway

First-Banner
Hi there! Today I’m so excited to share my review for KC Well’s newest release, FIRST, which releases tomorrow, 9/21. This is a fascinating M/M odd-couple romance between an aging porn star and a newly-out virgin college student. I really enjoyed it!

Make sure to pop down and check out the excerpt and enter the giveaway below.

FirstAbout the book:
It’s taken Tommy Newsome a while to get his head around being gay.

Growing up in a small town in Georgia, hasn’t prepared him for the more liberal life of a student at the university in Athens. Add to that the teachings of his parents and his church, and you have one shy young man who feels out of his depth. Working on his daddy’s farm hasn’t given him any chance of a social life, certainly not one like the clubs of Atlanta have on offer. Not that Tommy feels comfortable when he gets to sample it—Momma’s lectures still ring loudly inside his head.

All that changes when he goes to his first gay bar and sets eyes on Mike Scott.

When Mike’s not behind the bar at Woofs, he’s busy with his life as adult entertainer Scott Masters. Twenty years in the industry and the times, they are a-changing. Mike’s not had much luck in the relationship department, but as his mom is fond of telling him, you keep fishing in the same pond, you’re gonna reel in the same kind of fish. Maybe it’s time for a change.

And then a beautiful young man asks Mike to be his first….

How about a little taste?

“I see your stalker’s here again.”

“Huh?” Mike frowned. “What are you talking about now, Kev?” He concentrated on the drink order for Dave and his friends over in the corner.

Kevin grinned and flicked his head toward the rear of the bar. “You know exactly who I’m talking ’bout. Mr. Cutie Pie over there with the muscles. Y’know, the one who’s been sitting on that barstool every Saturday night for the last five weeks?” He arched his eyebrows. “Don’t give me that ‘butter wouldn’t melt’ act. I seen you looking.” His grin widened. “G’on, tell me I’m wrong.”

Mike wasn’t about to give him the satisfaction. “You’re wrong,” he stated emphatically.

Kevin stared. “Hell, you’re a poor liar.” Then his eyes gleamed. “In that case, you can take him his burger, tater tots, and Cherry Coke. Maybe you could even get him to say a few words beyond ‘Hey.’ ’Cause I swear that’s all I’ve ever heard out of that pretty little mouth of his.”

Mike snickered. “I think if I spoke to him, he’d piss his pants.”

Kevin guffawed and went off to the back of the bar. Inside Mike was cursing himself. He’d been careful not to glance too openly at the guy. Those queens he worked with were too damn good at spotting when one of them was taking an interest in a customer. And fuck it, he was interested in the painfully shy but so sexy young man who hadn’t said a word.

“And then there’s the fact that every time he comes in here,” Kevin continued, appearing beside him as if there hadn’t been a break in conversation, “I watch him look ’round the bar ’til he sees you.” That grin was still in place.

“Are you still going on about him?” Mike demanded. “Sure you’re not the one here who’s fixating?”

Kevin held up his hands. “I just call it like I see it. I think he’s only here to ogle you.”

“Well, he’s gonna be disappointed if he turns up in a couple week’s time, isn’t he, ’cause I won’t be here.”

Kevin’s brow furrowed. “Since when do you not work on weekends?”

“Since I’ll be in LA, that’s when.” Mike returned his grin. “Remember?”

“Oh, yeah, you’ve got a shoot. I’d clean forgotten.” He faked a sad face. “Aw, how you gonna cope without seeing that gorgeous bod?” He leered. “Then again, don’t worry your head about it. I’m sure me or Patrick can take care of him.” He waggled his eyebrows.

Mike groaned. “For fuck’s sake, just leave the kid alone, okay? He’s not hurting anyone.” Mike had seen enough to know the guy wasn’t going to be a problem. He preferred this quiet observation to the occasional gropings of fans when he made appearances at Hustlaball or Southern Decadence. The kid appeared to have good manners.

“Here’s his order.” Kevin handed him the tray containing the Angus burger, tater tots, and Cherry Coke. “I’m sure he’ll be delighted to get it from you.” That shit-eating grin just wouldn’t quit.

Mike shook his head and took the tray. He walked over to where the young guy sat, his eyes widening as Mike approached. “Here you go,” Mike said cheerfully, setting the food down in front of him.

The young guy blushed furiously. “Th-thanks.” He lowered his gaze and commenced picking at his tots.

Mike retreated to a safe distance and watched him while he ate. He liked the look of those wide shoulders, the reddish-brown hair, not too short, the barest hint of scruff on his jawline and those striking green eyes. His skin was creamy where it showed, which spoke of a lot of time spent covered up. With his coloring, that was understandable. But that body was speaking even louder to Mike’s dick, which was definitely interested, judging by the way it filled as he feasted on the delectable view before him.

His attention was forcibly drawn away when someone pinched his ass, good and hard.

“You are so busted.”

Fucking Kevin.

My Review:
4.5 Stars for this contemporary M/M romance between an aging porn superstar and a blushing virgin.

Mike Scott is 44 and a bartender at a gay sports bar in Altlanta, with a 20 year career in gay porn. He’s well known by his trade name, Scott Masters, and isn’t that keen on relationships since his last ex left. Too many guys have a problem with his porn work, it seems. Not that Mike does. It’s a job, and it’s getting to be a drag. Studios are pressuring the guys to do more bareback (unprotected) scenes and new gay-for-pay actors are more hassle than they are worth, in Mike’s opinion. He’s getting jaded, really.

Tommy is a 19 y/o gay college student trying to step out of his closet. He grew up in a tiny, God-fearing town with parents who took him to church all the time. He has never watched porn, and has no interest in it, in drinking, or in casual sex. Still, he knows his urges are homosexual, and he fears his family’s reaction. (With good reason!) His roommate, Ben, is bisexual, but hasn’t told his parents, either. Still, Ben spends his Saturday nights in the gay bars hooking up as often as possible. He hooked Tommy up with a fake ID so he could go clubbing too, but Tommy’s more into the quiet life. So he goes to Woofs, a gay sports bar—where he’s stunned by the beauty that is Mike.

Mike can’t miss the Cherry Coke drinking corn-fed farm boy who takes the last stool at his bar every Saturday night for weeks on end. He’s mighty polite, and darn quiet, but he is an eye-catcher. Mike’s fellow bartenders, Kevin and Patrick, all want a piece of Tommy, but they can see he only has eyes for Mike. And, they work a bit of magic to keep Mike from making serious mistakes–like letting Tommy walk away.

When these two finally connect, it is so sweet. Tommy has confessed that he’s a virgin, and that he’s like Mike to be his first. He has no knowledge of Mike’s porn career, and that’s probably the only reason Mike agrees. Mike’s been propositioned uncountable times by fans, and he doesn’t need that pressure. Plus, there is something so absolutely irresistible about Tommy’s freshness. He’s been so sheltered in his life–his parents controlled his TV, radio and literature choices, in the meantime shaping a quiet, conscientious and compassionate man. He is nothing like the men Mike usually chooses, and that’s also refreshing.

The biggest part of the conflict is Mike’s porn career, because Mike doesn’t want to reveal it. As he and Tommy spend more time together, Mike realizes that he doesn’t want to lose Tommy in his life, and that’s happened too often once he reveals his career. So he keeps it quiet, but it is giant, hairy problem, especially once Tommy finds out.

The way this is dealt with is really excellent, however. Love had bloomed, and Tommy’s not sure what to do now. Can he deal with it? Should he have to? Expect a lot of tears, and some well-placed advice from seasoned bartenders.

The entire book is a fantastic journey. I really dug being in these guys brains. Mike has a real “Come-to-Tommy” moment and it made all his other decisions easier. The issues of being a career porn actor were so clearly described, I thought I was on set. I’ve read a few porn star books, and the “business” end of it is less glamorous that the normals (like me) imagine. Tommy has some family issues that were devastating, and, yet, uplifting. Ben and his family are the most awesome folk–and the end is so HEA it’ll rip the tears right out of your eyes.

Or maybe that was just me.

I gotta have more of these peeps, so I’m hoping to see a Ben book, or even a Kevin + Patrick book down the pike… Just sayin’!
